Unlikely, I live about as close to the middle of nowhere on a college campus as possible. There is a lot of nowhere up here in Northwest Missouri, and mine has yet to ship. Ordered on the 10th if that makes a difference...

HA! Maryville!

and it ships with iRecipe. Lasagna included for free :D

Night Of The Panther

The manager of my local Apple Store says that he will closing the store on Friday at 7:30 pm.

He will be opening the doors at 8:00 pm.

He says that he will have plenty of copies of Panther, so that I did not have to pre-order and reserve my copy.

Call and have the overnight shipping charge taken off. Regardless of what kind of shipping you purchased, everyone who ordered in time is going to receive Panther on or before 10/24.

I too noticed that my order status has recently changed to reflect 2nd day shipping even though i only got the standard free service. I also ordered through my edu discount.

Unfortunately though, no shipping notice yet. I ordered just a few hours after the announcement as soon as I got home from work.

Nope, not me. My new 17" PB made it through for a 19.95 upgrade. But my order status still says "on or before 10/24."

I placed my upgrade order on 10/9, immediately after I read on this site that my serial number might qualify for the fulfillment pricing. I've had my new powerbook for about three weeks now.

Perhaps our Panther orders will be the last to go out. Makes sense I guess, since we've paid the least for it.

No .edu discount in the Chesnut Hill Mall in Newton, MA

According to a sales person at the Apple store in the Chestnut Hill Mall, .edu discounts do not apply to Panther in-store. It has to be bought online. Its just as well for me. My iBook decided to forget it had a CD drive around 10.2.8 and I haven't had a chance to get it fixed because I use it constantly for school. :(

Archive and Install

Okay, I have to ask, and forgive my ignorance, but is Panther going to have to be a clean install as was recommended for Jaguar?

I don't know the official word, but I installed Panther over Jaguar with the "Archive and Install" option, and it works like a charm. I would give that a try first...

Is the giveaway one iMac G4 for ALL Apple Stores across the country, or one for each store? One for each store would be cool -- one for the whole country -- well, I might as well go waste my time and buy a lottery ticket!

My Panther UTD order (15" PB) was upgraded to "2nd day" from ground. I'm guessing it will ship out tomorrow and arrive Friday afternoon.

I think Apple wants to make as big an impact with Panther as possible and this means getting out the UTD orders for the G5 ASAP.

Once you qualify I'm pretty sure the Apple fulfilment center doesn't care what system you qualified with as that would only create more work for them and make fulfilment more expensive. So, look for tomorrow to big the big ship day for everyone who requested regular ground shipping. BTW Apple did the same thing with Jaguar if you recall.

I called both the Chicago North Michigan Avenue store and the Schaumburg store, and they both said that they could not offer the educational pricing. They told me to order online, but reminded me to still come to the Apple store for the festivities.

2-day shipping

Yeah, mine now says "2-day" as well, but I haven't been charged for any shipping, let alone the shipping upgrade.

Before, I only meant that I could understand why the full retail boxed versions had started shipping but our UTDs had not. To me, it makes perfect sense.

Hopefully, everyone's suspicions are correct and the UTDs will ship by tomorrow. I'm anxious to see how many hacks I can discard once Panther's installed. I'd prefer to be able to run the OS without any third-party modifications.

Ordered today and shipped today!

Just placed my order about 45 minutes ago and I just got a notice saying that it shipped.

Whatever, I'm not complaining. No big deal either way. It's not like I'm a nerd who will be complaining if it came on Monday.

To quote William Shatner "Get a life!"

Up to date program

I ordered my copy right after the anouncement through the Up to date program for my G5, but have yet to get any word of shipping status.

Oh I can't wait for Panther

That is disappointing news. I plan to be there Friday night. Are you planning to attend? It would be nice to meet a fellow member on the forum.

just confirm and I'll be happy!

It's really insane how since everyone is talking about shipments I've been at least 3 times/hour checking my order...

Nothing ...

...and when Mail checks my box I have to do a recall just to be sure that there is really nothing coming...

:D

Translation

Could someone, please, for the benefit of our non-"English as a first language" people on this board, explain what "all out" means?

Thank you very much.

I see people suggesting doing an "Archive & Install". This is my first OS X upgrade so I could use a little more info :)

The impression I got is that this archives the old system; what exactly does that mean? How would I go back if I needed to? If I had no problems, how would I dump the archive to free up the space?
