At last!
I like the look of Apple's main page, Tiger in the Spotlight! :D

FINALLY!!!!!! You guys hit it on the head. Tuesday announcement, mid-April, I can't wait. Now comes possibly the worst part, the time between the announcement and the sale. Gimme, gimme, gimme!

No indication if Tiger will be a free/low-cost upgrade for Mac mini purchasers!

Or even if there's a few weeks/months period for a free/low-cost upgrade!!

This also means NO NEW PRODUCTS for AT LEAST 3 weeks!!!

More exclamation points!!!!

No Tiger announcement for Canadians!!!!!

The "Tiger Frequently Asked Questions" link doesn't work!!!!!!

I really hope they do a night of tiger at the apple stores. I think I heard some where that if you bought panther at the apple store that night it was cheeper.

Not necessarily. coz if they announce new PM's next week they probably will not ship until then anyway. All is good. All is good. Hopefully my Tiger arrives early!! But then again on time would be suffice

if you read the press release, you would learn that yes, they are doing a 'night of tiger' on Friday, April 27th, at 6PM, at all Apple Retail Stores, and Authorized Stores.

I dont know if the purchase is cheaper if you buy that night... all I know is FREE SHIPPING + EDU discount on website = :D :D :D

Let the games begin...

What is of interest to me is when/how the story was released.

Below is the order (as near as I can tell) of who released the story (as an aside, someone on another thread said I was wrong when I posted that the Tiger release would be news in the "Traditional" Media).

1) 02:41 PST Reuters News Service
2) 05:02 PST CNN
3) 05:18:pST Apple OS X Page
4) 05:20 PST Apple Home Page
5) 06:02 PST MacWorld
7) 0615: PST MacOSXRumors
8) 06:20 PST MacsimumNews
9) 06:40 PST MacRumors

As of 6:40 PST, no story on:

MacUser
ThinkSecret
slaskdot
AppleInsider
MacNewsBytes

So, the first 2 sources were "Traditional" Media... and they had the information at least an hour before any of the specialized rumor sites.

Neener, Neener, Neener!

I wonder if the Mac mini will get a slight video upgrade then, since the Core Image compatable cards are listed as such.

Core Image-capable graphics cards include:

* ATI Mobility Radeon 9700
* ATI Radeon 9600 XT, 9800 XT, X800 XT
* nVidia GeForce FX Go 5200
* nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra
* nVidia GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL, 6800 GT DDL

And I would hope that when Tiger is shipping on a brand new Mac, that brand new Mac would support the OS's technology. Even if not. Mac mini here I come, the ol G4 300 is lagging.

The black background is really a shocking change. It looks pretty decent, and it makes Tiger seem really important. Too bad it totally clashes with the tab bar on top...

64 Bits processing

Steve jobs promised and delivered... The best engineers are at Apple, I don't doubt it one second!!! The most important thing for me is the 64 bits processing... I love the OS X, I love Apple machines but all the niceties in the applications are just OK for me...

I use a dualie 2.5 G5 + 4 Gb RAM + Ultra DDL... a pretty nice set but: what will 64 bits really bring to me? can someone be kind enough and explain what are the gains i am going to get.

I do a lot of Photoshop / FCP / DVD SP...

Thanks so much guys...

Anyone see a way to order it on CD-ROM?? My poor iBook G3 doesn't have a DVD drive. Gonna get a DVD copy for my Mini though.

No CDs, but you can install from another computer if both have FireWire

Did you see the Longhorn jab?

This is on the Apple Tiger Upgrade page at the bottom:

Running Mac OS X v10.3 Panther or Mac OS X v10.2 Jaguar? Don’t have a cow — see how Tiger will take your Mac to the next level.

Is that a jab at Longhorn or what?!?! :D

Tiger rebate?

i bought a Mac mini on the 30th of March, do you think that i would get a Rebate on tiger?

i just answered my own question, thats a big 'NO'

*sad face*

This better not be the only announcements in April - FCPHD5 and hopefully the new G5s on Monday at NAB. I've got $4G burning a hole in my pocket.
