No indication if Tiger will be a free/low-cost upgrade for Mac mini purchasers!

Or even if there's a few weeks/months period for a free/low-cost upgrade!!

This also means NO NEW PRODUCTS for AT LEAST 3 weeks!!!

More exclamation points!!!!

No Tiger announcement for Canadians!!!!!

The "Tiger Frequently Asked Questions" link doesn't work!!!!!!

Not on the main page, no but the store.... YES!

Why would Tiger be offered at a discount for Mac Mini owners?

Really? It's incredible! I've been waiting for this my whole life! Finally, finally, I got first comment on something!

Oh, Tiger? Yeah, that's exciting too, I guess....

Edit: I just realised this date is no good. It clashes with the opening of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Apple, can we re-schedule?

:)

Interesting. Especially since (as I noted on the other thread), the "Automator" robot looks suspiciously like Marvin the Robot. (though this ad says May 6)

Not necessarily. coz if they announce new PM's next week they probably will not ship until then anyway. All is good. All is good. Hopefully my Tiger arrives early!! But then again on time would be suffice

In my opinion it does indeed absolutely really means nothing else new for about 3 weeks.

Think about it. Would they put a "17 days until Tiger" counter on the front page, only to put it in a small box if something else came out? Would they put "PowerMac Quad G5" in a small box, also?

Apple seems to always only have one big announcement for their front page at a time. In my book this means nothing new for 3 weeks. Which also means that by then it should be the PowerMac Quad G5, which also means no iBook updates for at least 6 to 10 weeks.

Still hanging in there for an iBook mini, though. :D

Pr-ordered mine for April 29th delivery.

I usually like to go to the events, but my local Apple Store will not honor education discounts on software. $69.00 versus $129.00 didn't require much thought. ;)

based on the new look of apple.com we may have a new version of the (much hated) brushed metal look coming with tiger.

Anyone see a way to order it on CD-ROM?? My poor iBook G3 doesn't have a DVD drive. Gonna get a DVD copy for my Mini though.
On the right hand side of theMac OS X Upgrade page, there is a box labeled "Media Exchange Program" with a link to a PDF that explains how to get a copy of the CDs.

Too bad I got my G5 3 weeks ago...the up to date program starts today...lame :(

Does anyone with a Pismo notice a problem with the requirements? Looks like "built-in Firewire" is a requirement this time, and the old clamshell iBook SE's are listed as supported, but the more advanced Pismo is not. What gives?

http://www.apple.com/macosx/upgrade/requirements.html

And how am I supposed to get Tiger on my G3/800 iBook w/CD-ROM drive?

I hate having old technology...Steve seems to think we're all made of $$$.

Already 1 dissapointment

Briefing through the developer's page I do notice that in XCode 2 there will be code sense for Java, BUT it will only include "the latests Java 2 platform" meaning No Java(5/1.5 whatever you want to call it) for at least another month....

Just bought my copy of Tiger at the Educational price of $69 with no s/h. Woohoohoo!

Tiger "up-to-date" program for recent purchasers?

i bought a Mac mini on the 30th of March, do you think that i would get a Rebate on tiger?

I called the Apple store - I'm waiting on a Mac Mini order that I placed last week - to see if I was going to get Tiger (since I just bought and my order hasn't shipped.)

The girl on the phone told me that my Mini would probably not ship with Tiger, but that I will be able to purchase the "Mac OS X Tiger - up to date" program for $9.95.

I hope this is correct, since my order hasn't shipped. Though, if you listen to the phone message regarding such things, it says that those who purchase on or after April 12th are eligible for the discounted "up to date" program.

In the past, I believe they've extended this back 15 or 30 days if you bother them about it.

The new Quicktime's of all the apps are kewl online.
I have ordered a copy but i hope i get a discount off it because our family Mini is coming this friday :(, shipped last friday

FINALLY!

I've been holding off on a wipe of the harddrive and a complete new install until Tiger came around. I'll be curious to see if i like Spotlight, as K has been pissing me off recently (the widgets keep moving around or not loading).

And it'd be nice to be able to chat with 3 people at once, although I still haven't actually had a chat with 1 yet. Video chat may not be as wanted as everyone wants it to be. The folks at Ojo better be ready.

Tiger. Tiger. Tiger.

(Oh, I think I'll go see Hitchhikers Guide, and swing by the Apple store on the same day).

Think Seceret is reporting new G-5 Power Macs to be announced at NAB.
Also no G-5 Powerbooks in 2005.
So no "New G-5 Powerbooks next Tuesday" posts until next year.

This is on the Apple Tiger Upgrade page at the bottom:

Running Mac OS X v10.3 Panther or Mac OS X v10.2 Jaguar? Don’t have a cow — see how Tiger will take your Mac to the next level.

Is that a jab at Longhorn or what?!?! :D

When I read that line on the webpage I was like "what the heck? That seems like a really weird thing to say," but I think you're right, I think it's a jab at Longhorn.

don't fall for the "64-bit myth"

The most important thing for me is the 64 bits processing...

but: what will 64 bits really bring to me? ...

It's the most important thing for you, yet you don't know what it does?

First of all, the new 64-bit addressing won't help you since you only 4 GiB of RAM. The main thing that 64-bit addressing does is allow a *single* program to use more than 4 GiB.

Second, 10.4's 64-bit implementation is a partial implementation that is mainly available to command line terminal apps. No Cocoa/Carbon apps, no GUI apps.

For an applicaiton like Photoshop or video to use 64-bit addressing, it would have to be rewritten as a "client-server" app, with a 32-bit GUI talking to a separate 64-bit work piece. Ain't gonna happen, IMO.

The need for 64-bit on the desktop isn't that great, and the need for a lame terminal-only implementation is almost zero on the desktop.

The supercomputer clusters will like 10.4's 64-bit addressing, though....

Finally! I was starting to grow tired of seeing the iPod's on the Apple.com home page :D
