Does anyone know if most programs that run on Tiger will be able to be run on Leopard or are we going to have to wait for updates from most software manufacturers? It's the main reason I wouldn't purchase it right away.

Waiting in line

I'm not really waiting in any line BUT....with regards to waiting in line for Leopard. I wonder if people line up at the store at 1 Infinite Loop? I go to school near there so that's probably where I'll go. Seems less likley to be busy.

This is not like the iPod Touch at all. They are excellent at getting FedEx to deliver on the day of or even the day before launch. Why wait when you can pre-order tomorrow (I hope)?

i hope as well...but do you think steve will want to announce it himself? or just let apple.com do the work?

And here in Australia, we'll have it installed and running before y'all wake up !

the international dateline makes no difference to delivery times...if they're shipped from china, then we'll get it first by 12 hours or so...but that's only if we can preorder:p

also i suspect...if apple let the first copies go at 6pm on the 26th, australia certainly won't see any until probably the iPhone:p

Don't Worry • Be Happy Almost Everything Will Work Just Fine

Almost everything will run perfectly. Most publishers have already given you updates that have been tested with pre-releases of Leopard. Many even tell you the new version is Leopard compatible. We're still running the same version of Microsoft Office 2004 as well as the first MS Office for X that runs on 10.1, Jaguar and Panther and Tiger. Guess what? Those same versions will run on Leopard as well.

1 week Friday!

Apple used to release Mac OS X on a Saturday and stores would open at midnight and people would queue.

6pm is more civilised. I wonder if it will be BYO, as in bring-your-own DVD to put it on.

Under two weeks is one hell of a tight turnaround from GM -> Shops, but I am sure they will move hell and high water to make it.

That was pre-Apple Store era. Since the Apple Stores have opened OS X has always been released on a Friday @ 6pm. The stores are always jammed packed and I avoid like nothing else. I bought 10.2 @ MicroCenter. No line or wait at all. I pre-ordered 10.3 and 10.4 and Apple upgraded ground shipping to 2Day and got them hours before the store launch. That is def. the way to go I think. Unless you are just dying for key tags.

Right... Plan formulating...

Leave work 5.30... no, sod that, leave work at 5pm...

Zoom to the train station... 5.15pm

Train to Charing Cross... 5.40pm

Tube to Piccadilly Circus... 5.55pm (bah! make that Oxford Circus... tho' I think I can run faster than the Tube at times - the TFL journey planner's suggesting ominous 'Scheduled Maintenance Works'...)

Leg it to the Regent Street Apple Store... 6pm!

That's the plan, Stan.

[edit: might see some familiar MR faces up there, crowd-density permitting!]

On major O/S releases like Leopard Apple will ship it overnight FedEx regardless of the method you choose on check-out at the Apple store.

And I can almost guarantee you 3 large duplication factories have been stamping this since last Saturday.

I'm seriously going to run up and down my dorm hallways when Leopard is announced.

All of Colorado State University is going to hear me celebrate. :p

Funny. I know for a fact that the University of Central Florida will hear me run around when it's announced as well.

ok here is my question....could I just give my student I.D to my dad and have him pick it up for me at six and get a discount, or do I personally need to go?

Pre-Order, Pre-Install, Pre-Queue, Party On With Steve In Palo Alto

I take delivery Friday Morning, install and drive the 44 miles to the Palo Alto store in time to be first in line early Friday afternoon. I go for the party not to buy anything. Plus I can learn how to use it from all the others in line who also already have it installed. It's Palo Alto tradition. Then Steve shows up to say hi to all the employees and the TV crews.

I'll leave at 4, be in a train by 4.10, at Green Park at 4.25, at Oxford circus at 4.30, and at Regent Street's store by 4.35 :)

My trusty 3G iPod should keep me through the queue, and hopefully I'll get a friend or two to come along with me...

Order Educational Online To Get It First

ok here is my question....could I just give my student I.D to my dad and have him pick it up for me at six and get a discount, or do I personally need to go?
Pre-Order Educational Rate at the online store. I am in education. So I do that. Just go to the Ed Store and order. It will be delivered early Friday by FedEx overnight even though you ask for free ground.

Education discounts are unavailable in apple retail stores.

Yes. Federal Express alerts all their employees this is going to happen next Thursday-Friday. They build up a queue of packages at the local level all over the world and when the time comes they load up the trucks from that built up local inventory of packages and deliver on time the 26th and in some cases the 25th.

Ironically, I had a dream last night that I was using Leopard.

The iCal icon read the following date... (without being open ) October 26!! ;)

Do Apple stores only get it first? I won't be able to make it down to the Apple store at that time, but I could make it to a Fry's if they would have it then.

The more helpful answer is that education discounts are unavailable in apple retail stores.
