please excuse me if its been said already, but aren't all the recent versions named after german tanks? tiger/panther from ww2 and the more modern leopard? How about switching sides and calling it sherman?:D
p.s please note that I am only taking the piss

I vote Ocelot, though it's not as catchy a name as Tiger or Leopard imo.

'Simba' just popped into my head :p

why not just skip to OS 11? Then we can have some other animal.
Mac OS XI - codename.........

Um, no they've been named after big-cats! how bout switching to domestic cats, Minx Tabby...

Ocelot gets my vote followed by Lynx but lynx is quite common and has copywrite infringement written all over it. So the obvious choice would be Cougar

Lynx sounds too much like Linux.

Where is something more awesomer-tastic like "Dragon!" "Grizzl Bear!" or "Mega-Tron" ?

Edit:
ohh...10.6 not 11  on that note, im with this post

T-I-double-guh-err :D
that would be awesome. Tigerrrrr is so awesomestic

ok I am sorry for being the new noob on the block and for my statement for puma as a name for the 10.6 OS I still like my other selections

Ocelot sounds silly. "tethered ocelot on a leash..."

My prediction:
10.6 Cougar
10.7 Lynx
10.8 Lion (the pinnacle of X releases)
10.9 Sphinx -- transitional release, like 9.2

Sphinx just seems coolest for the last release. Schrödinger and Kitten are, respectively, the "geeky" and "cute" runners up in the same vein of being transitional.

After that I predict they dump both the cat names and the use of version numbers in the OS name, since OS XI seems a clumsy successor to an OS that lasted as long as X did, and OS 11 sounds like a throwback to the Classic era. Gotta realize that X isn't really just the 10th Mac OS, it's the replacement for Classic. I see it lasting another decade, maybe more.

(and yeah, I know they could keep going with 10.10 etc. Let's not get into that debate, I just don't think Apple is the kind of company that would use geeky versioning schemes like that in their most high profile product release. They'd get made fun of for their "bad math". I can only see them doing that if they remove all references to the version number from the packaging and promotional materials and just go with the codename as far as selling it to the public. Possible, but as this thread makes clear, we're already running out of cats!)

boohoo

Windows Vista Extreme Edition

(when MS finally gets tired of trailing behind OS X and fixing Vista 1st Ed.)

How about Caracal? Those are kind of cool looking to boot, though not well known. (subspecies of the Lynx)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caracal

Realistically, I'm thinking Lion. That's really the last of the big cats before you start going into the medium cats, which is what the Ocelot and Lynx are. (Sans getting more specific, i.e. "Snow Leopard" but I don't see that happening)

Mac OS X 10.6 - What should they be named?

Boy, it looks like that my idea is pretty "Popular". "Cougar" was my idea. In-Fact, I've just wrote to Steve Jobs and asked Him on what He thinks About-It.:):):)
