Try looking having a desktop background that shows the Orion Nebula, and see if you still like the blue dot/lights. Completely indistinguishable from stars.
To me, most of the desktop changes scream trying too hard. While the shelf metaphor for the dock works when it's on the bottom, what about when it's on the side of the screen? Have you ever known a shelf to behave like that IRL? I don't think so. Translucent menu bar... seriously, what's the point?
The Abbey Road separator is a nice touch though... doesn't take up any extra space. Maybe they can time the release of the Beatles catalog on iTunes with the release of Leopard.
The brown folders do look better than the blue. But at low resolution they still look like opaque, slightly distorted throwbacks to System 6, minus the ability to see that a folder is open.
Don't think much of the System Prefs icon, but it's no worse than the current one. Gears don't say preferences, gears say clockwork, behind-the-scenes. A bunch of knobs, buttons, and switches are a much better indicator. One switch, with a huge self-indulgent Apple logo, is just ambiguous.
