you may think that but they will be wrong

this from the same idiots who said that there will be a version of the iPhone 12 with 4G not 5G and there will be a iPhone SE being released this year 😂😂😂

meanwhile on appletrack.com prosser, 9to5mac, Gurman and Ross young are far more reliable and have better accuracy than Mac otakara
Yeah, many of us know Mac otakara is less reliable than some of the others when it comes to rumors. There is a possibility that they’re talking about a cheaper SE mini.

After all of the rumors coming from analysts these past few months, I would be surprised if we don’t get a redesigned mini this year. The only thing I can think of is something went wrong last minute and they have to wait until next year. It’s definitely in development and maybe close to release.
I agree, nearly every rumor has been about a redesigned mini. I’d be really surprised otherwise. I’m certainly not going to buy a 6 if it is the same as the 5 with just an upgraded processor.

no they are exactly talking about a successor to the SE 2020 being released this year in which

1. No other leaker is mentioning the possibility of a “SE Mini”

2. all leakers including digitimes are saying the next SE will be out in 2022

Hopefully he will be right... sure, the Mini looks a bit „outdated“...what ever that means, but it‘s still a very powerful device... especially for traveling... and the fact that it still has Lightning is a killer feature in my opinion. One connector to rule them all! Design wise yeah... could be better, but function over form!

There are rumors that iPhone 13 will have usb-c, so lightening may be making its way out. I’ll take a bigger screen/smaller bezels in the same form factor any day over the current iteration.

If Apple doesn’t give the iPad mini the flat edged design of the other ipads so you can finally use the apple pencil 2 with it…. That would suck.

The Mini is in desperate need of a refresh and it would be nice if all of the tablets had the same design.
I wonder what the sales figures are on ipad minis? If the design hasn't changed for yonks, it probably means the demand isn't high. Those who like them, love them, but that's as far as the love goes. It's like the small but vocal supporters of the iphone mini or whatever it's called. It flopped and Apple is going to discontinue it after this year due to not enough demand.

Talk of an iPad mini that sounds like a discounted iPad Air are hard to believe. Its just not an expensive enough device for Apple to do much with it. The same case with new internals is more like it the same way they did that with the Mac mini. The redesigned Mac mini coming in the future will be more expensive and in another class. Thats the Apple way. If they bump the iPad mini drastically they will call it some other name and charge more. They give you a new design OR a faster speed but not more, when they do both, they charge more. They even did that with the new iMac. The middle priced one is the one that comes with similar specs to the low end model it replaced. The low end had ports taken away to keep it at the base price. The iPad mini that is more like the pro will be overpowered with new screen tech and come it at $500. They will still sell a speed bumped old styled SE version for $400.

I doubt they’d release two Minis that similar in price. That’s too much manufacturing for such a niche product. I’d love a Mini Pro, but that’ll probably never happen. Hoping for at least a quality Air-style Mini. I wouldn’t be completely shocked, though, if it just gets a slightly larger screen and a spec bump, but retains the home button. We’ll see this fall or not at all (just had to rhyme, sorry).

These Air 5 rumours are not making much sense, as they effectively describe iPad Pro 11” without ProMotion, FaceID and a 0.1” smaller screen? The release time-frame in “early 2022” does not seem right either, as the spring has usually been used to refresh the Pro line. As an Air 4 user, I am personally waiting for an OLED screen, the rest is just side bonuses to me.

Naming wise, it would work a lot better if they ditched the name Air, called THAT one just “iPad” and the current “iPad” with older design would become iPad SE. It works well for the phone and watch lineups.

The iPad mini was a nice experiement to combat the google tablets, but now that Apple is dominant in this sector, they can keep this form factor for all they care, and have users upgrade to the other iPads.

But don’t get me wrong, i really would like the new mini to be a shrunken down Air (much like they did with the iPhone mini). Heck, even the basic iPad has been updated with a faster silicon and smart connector.

Design change for Air? Already iPad Air looks like the Pro except for the camera layout and slightly larger bezels. As for the mini, I think it will get a redesign.

It also lacks the M1 chip, and will likely be no more than 6GB of RAM. Oh, don’t forget that next year’s Pros will likely have some minor design upgrades, like a glass back for wireless charging and possibly other changes.

They wouldn’t upgrade the Air to the point where it’s almost identical to the Pros, unless they plan to take another step forward with the Pros after that. The 2020 refresh of the Air was great, but then the Pros got a big RAM and processor bump, along with Center Stage.

There’s always something new for the Pros. The Air just plays catch up essentially (aside from the Touch ID in the power button feature on the latest Air, which is unique in the lineup).

The Air 3 was released in the spring, though. There is no set timeline for any of the iPad lines. Typically the Pro has about an 18-month gap, but it only had a 1-year gap most recently. Remember, though, that two iterations of the Pro were fall releases. Even the base iPad isn’t exclusive to a certain time of year. The 5th and 6th gen iPads were spring releases, while the 7th and 8th were fall releases. Apple does what they want.

I got some feeling, that rumors like this are deliberately spread by Apple to stirr up some uncertainty. All leakers pointed a pretty clear picture of the upcoming device and Apple doesn’t like this. Apple clearly stated numerous times that they don‘t like leakers very much.

so I still believe that a redesigned Mini 6 is coming, looking like the Air. Plus I highly doubt that there will be two versions of the Mini. I love the Mini but it isn‘t selling well enough to justify two different models.

And Apple can‘t release another unchanged Mini. Noone would buy it. They rather abandon the Mini line.
But before abandoning they will keep it alive with a redesign because I think Apple is no dumb company and they clearly see the potential of a redesigned Mini. More and more people see the potential of the device and I believe the revamped Mini 6 would sell like hot buns. Maybe not at the beginning (which is good because I want to grab one as soon as possible :D ) but as news spread how awesome the device is sell figures will rise. There is a market for small tablets especially as the market is being flooded with big phones and big tablets. Not everyone wants those huge bulky tablets. No other tablet is better for youtube, reading and gaming than the Mini.

It would make sense to upgrade the specs of the Air. The Pro offer a lot more and is only $20 (in Canada) more 128GB Pro vs 256GB Air. The pricing does not make any sense for the actual specs.
They should nerf the Air and drop the price further.

I currently have the 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 (4th gen). This was an upgrade from my iPad Air 2, and it certainly is superior in nearly everyway except for being noticeably heavier. I imagined myself using the Apple Pencil a lot more than I do in fact I almost never use it. Which is a little odd because I used to have a Samsung Note and used the stylus quite often. I think that if Apple put a stylus on the iPhone I would use that more than the pencil on the iPad. Which may seem odd but I do not doodle or draw well so I would use it for mostly selecting copying text that can be a little frustrating on the iPhone.

So all in all it’s a great device but I realize it’s not something I should have bought, it’s overkill. The iPad Air really is made for me. I can do most things the iPad Pro can do which is plenty for me while being much lighter which I miss, a lot. So I’ve decided to downgrade to the Air.

This leaves me in that familiar territory of being caught between upgrade cycles should I wait or should I?

Anybody else think this is Apple trying to figure out who the leakers are? I'm sure there was an article a while back about how Apple has implemented a walled garden approach to product development so no one team knows stuff? This feels like the powers that be at Apple have shared conflicting information about the upcoming iPads to figure out who to fire.
Ever since the Apple engineer left a prototype in a German beer bar all those years ago. Apple seems extremely tight. No leaks there until it hits their suppliers and partners usually in China. Apple recently hired a Chinese law firm to start going after some of the leakers, which is a little unusual as most western firms tend to just throw up their hands but ultimately just accept it as a price of doing business there.

I have a 12.9 Pro from work and would exchange it in a heartbeat to a smaller Air if given the choice simply because of weight/size. Air would be perfect for my work.

Mini on the other hand is the one I want for personal use.
