Issue:
Trying to access disks/shares hosted on Mac Pro 2019 Catalina from a Mac Pro 2010 Catalina fails after the share is selected and correct login credentials complete. The share finder window instantly closes with a message:
“The operation can't complete because the original item can't be found”
This operation work fine in reverse from the Mac Pro 2019 with shares hosted on the Mac Pro 2010
Solution:
This is easy to check and fix (once you know that is)
You would expect that starting file sharing would automatically grant the SMB server process the appropriate permissions, but that doesn't seem to always be the case.
1. Open System Preferences and open Security & Privacy > Privacy.
2. If the pane is locked, press the lock and enter an administrator's name and password.
3. In the sidebar, select Full Disk Access.
4. Press the + button.
4. Press ShiftCommandG and type /usr/sbin.
4. Select smbd and press Open (showing in a sub menu).
5. Make sure smbd is enabled, see image below.
6. Close System Preferences.
First time that I have had this issue - hope this will save someone else hours Troubleshooting and Googling.
