So, I called Apple today and asked very nicely about the status of my order. She took my order number and verified name and address, then asked how she could help me. I calmly and nicely explained that a friend ordered their Mac Pro after me and received shipping notice today. She suggested that it might be because I customized some items? I explained that we had the same configuration and that they ordered theirs on the 29th while I ordered on the 15th. She seemed genuinely surprised and sorry about it and put me on hold. When she came back, she offered me $150 off my order and free overnight shipping. I thanked her profusely and wished her a very good day.

I don't understand how Apple is shipping these things? No offense, Whistler, I'm super happy you are getting your machine... but ordered Feb 3rd... I ordered Jan 14th and I know some others ordered earlier than me.... and still no change.

i think it's totally random. we've gotten so many different config, parts, methods, discounts, etc
i mean just look at their way of customer service.. totally random
some got over night free, some 2 day, some 25 bucks off some 100, apparently 1 with 150, some with nothing, some with combo.. inconsistent and random.
hope you get yours soon.. ship tomorrow, arrive sat?

GAH!!! I know this is coming off as sounding like I feel a sense of entitlement ... but I DO! I ordered on Jan. 9 and I've been waiting to order since May '07 and saving since June '06 to finally replace my May '01 desktop.
Mine STILL says "Not yet shipped" and my credit card shows no activity. This morning when I called I got free overnight, that's it. You ordered 26 days AFTER I did. !@##$%!#$%%$#$%!$#%

my card was charged today and nothing on the shipping status changed yet, i called apple twice today, both telling me i cant get the free upgrade shipping because i used a friends/family discount, the first guy also offered me a free wireless mighty mouse! but it didnt work out

What the heck? Still nothing, not even credit card charging activity. I ordered on the 8th, changed by order on the 10th, but that was still the 10th! Ridiculous I say.
The whole issue with "offers" is bad PR for Apple - they need to have consistent policy on what their people can and can not offer. It seems like giving some people more, and some people less, will just piss off their loyal customers. The loyal customers are the ones who hit refresh a lot, btw.
Anyways, I'm still slated to get mine Feb 15th shipped, like it was when I ordered on the 10th. But honestly, after reading the guy who bought it on the 5th have his shipped, I'm ready to call apple tomorrow morning again and complain some more. I ordered on the 9th and have a ship date of Feb 13. I called Apple and asked them not to expedite the shipment as I'll be on an overseas business trip for the next two weeks. I actually wanted them to delay the ship date, but that's not something they can do and I don't want to cancel and re-order.
I hope mine is delayed by a couple of days.

I rang Apple (Australia) earlier today to ask if they knew anything about when we'd be getting ours and the guy I spoke to seemed pretty convinced that at least when these Mac Pro's launched they had some stock of the 8800GT in and he was surprised that I'd been waiting this long (Since Jan 14th)!!! He said it should only be 4 - 6 days for one to ship and then I said it still said 2 - 3 weeks shipping on the website and he checked and came to the conclusion that they must be out of stock now...
