i just called apple..

the person said "shipment" already left for TODAY..
so even though mine was 'prepared for shipment' last night, and since it was 12:30 pacific time. it's not going to ship today. b/c shipment pickup is in the morning

#$@!!??
is he an idiot?
or it's really not shipping today?

To answer one of your questions: you can prep a package for delivery, print the label and tracking info at any point in time through software. Doesn't mean they are being shipped until they are scanned by the driver and put into the truck.

ok. but once u "prep" it.. that means the box is sealed. meaning.. the 8800 is INSTALLED in the cmoputer etc right?

why wouldn't the dude put the thing in the truck?? he forgot??

Yeah, the box is probably sealed by the time it gets the shipping label, depending on their flow.

Anyone with a 8800GT got any comments on how quiet the Mac Pro is? Is there any increase in fan noise over the Radeon card?

It's pretty quiet when it's sitting idle. I am in XP downloading the crysis demo presently. I'll post again after I try playing crysis for a bit and see if the card is the loud.

Anyone order after Jan 15th and order a 2.8 octo , 8800 and airport want to send me their order # so I can complain to apple

Last 2 calls I've got the "It'll ship when we said it'll ship" treatment.

Hey Stoppard,

You wouldnt have an old 2006/2007 mac pro lying around would ya? If so could you try putting the 8800GT into it and see if it boots?

unfortunately no. I hope they fixed the issue with the cards firmware though and it just needs a cable though because I bought this computer with the expectation of at least 1 future graphics upgrade.

I'm on hold with Apple's Daniel in customer service. He sounds like he's from India and offered expedited shipping. I was really nice and he said a lot of people had been calling and complaining about this same issue, he would have offered me overnight shipping, but his computer is overseas and he has no overnight shipping.

Moral of the story, I called 1-800-MYAPPLE not to complain, but just check the status of the order and got "free" expedited shipping.

If they do get around to sending my box within the next few days, I wonder if it will really be expedited. From what I understood, the decreased the "arrives by" time from Feb 18th to Feb 15th. To me, this means as long as it gets here by Feb 15th, Apple and I are square.

I wonder what options you all are using when calling apple. I did the option "3" for Mac and mac software then the option "2" (i believe) for check order status.

Are you in XP through Boot Camp, Parallels or other?

I plan on using Parallels and XP like I do on my mac book, which is rarely. I figure if I do get the itch to game in XP, Parallels/XP and 8GB ram should be enough to run CS or Duke Nukem when it comes out.

Of the ppl doing boot camp/xp, have u tried parralels/xp on top of it?

Thought there is a thread that talked about it earlier - it won't boot unless the video card happens to have the 32 bit EFI loaded, as the newer Mac Pro uses 64 bit EFI. I know I try the "reverse" and it won't boot :)

Do you know where your rep was located? What # did u call, 800 MY APPLE?

I called the regular # and I said "Me and a bunch of co-workers ordered the machine and some people's are shipping before mine and they ordered after me? We all ordered the same machines because of the work we do." then I said "Hey I hear they are giving money back because of this and he said "yes i'll make your shipping next day air and take $25 off." Just be nice, but be firm and explain how this is a big inconvience and how your thinking of canceling your order etc if you dont get your way.

I'm in the same boat, although really the difference between shipping today and shipping Monday is a lot less grim than the (lost opportunity) of having it ship yesterday. I've got to wait the weekend regardless. If it had shipped yesterday then I'd have it today! :)

Just gave Apple a call to see if by chance there were any attempted charges on my card which may have been denied (I'm with Chase as well), unfortunately, there were none. :(

Ordered on January 11th with the ADC discount and is the following configuration is bound for Washington State...

Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeo
2GB (2x1GB)
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb
One 16x SuperDrive
AirPort Extreme Card (Wi-Fi)
APPLE WIRELESS MIGHTY MOUSE
WIRED KYBRD/MAC OS X
Country Kit

I was told the 8800GT was the culprit, yet there was no explanation as to why some are already shipping with a later order date than many of us.

If anyone had a similar configured Mac Pro shipped out with an order date later than mine, would it be possible to get a PM with your order number? The rep I had spoken to didn't really seem to believe me all that much when I told him others who order the 8800GT have already had theirs shipped.
