As of recent I have acquired a Mac Pro 2, 1. It can currently run all the way up to OS X 10.11 El Capitan, which is still a good OS, but isn't supported by Apple. Is there any possible way to get a Firmware Upgrade from 2, 1 to the 3, 1? There is fundamentally no difference between the two, as the socket and RAM compatibility are the same. After reading on about Dosdude1's patcher, I discovered that the 2008 Mac Pro is "compatible".

Any help is appreciated!

no way, that is simply impossible
Whats so fundamentally different? The socket is the same (LGA 771), the RAM Compatibility, is the same (Fully Buffered ECC DDR2). It's practically the same as upgrading the 4, 1 to the 5, 1, except, it isn't.

Rather than debating. The forum search feature can and will expose lots of details on this topic. Many details on what's a possible upgrade path for your mac pro is available as a sticky post at the top of the posts.

good luck in finding your answer.

Northbridge, CPU Generation and SMC Chip is different, PCI Slots differ in bandwith, just to name a few points.
