Those prices are not bad.

Yeah. Tough call as I like the compactness of the Mini but I could use the horsepower of the graphics cards in the Pro for some of my photography work. It would be a no brainer if the photography work was more than just an expensive hobby. If you think about it, the computer does a lot more per dollar than does the constantly-refreshed camera.

That said, I haven't upgraded cameras since my Canon 10D and am typing this on my Early 2009 iMac. I'm such a tightwad! My iPhone 5S has more pixels than does my DSLR!

Macbook Pro Retina is the same speed as intro level Mac Pro

I would love to get Mac Pro but will wait until I have the budget for a 12 core model. Macbook Pro Retina 2013 15" and these Mac Pro both are at around 14,000 Geekbench (64 bit, multicore readings).

Lol, again

I question using "thoroughly tested" and Apple in the same sentence these days...

Still pro-level cost. I'm in the boat with people who want a low-end Mac Pro with i7 and a consumer-grade GPU, or a high-end Mac mini with no laptop parts, however you look at it.

+1 Hoping the next refresh at least offers the option of just 1 video card. Looking to replace my almost 8 year old mac pro with a new beast for intensive audio mixing

Great news for nMP purchasers on the fence. I'm sure most people are looking for a decent upgraded 6core to pop up.

Wow, no refurbs until now? For such an expensive item, I'd expect more people to change their mind (or lose their job/whatever). I guess people are hanging onto these!

I know I'm hanging on to mine... an awesome machine. Fast, dead silent (which matters SO much in a quiet office), and it has exactly ONE more cord coming out of it than it would have if it were a full tower. Literally, my big tower would have 10 cords, and this has 11. (People like to compare the old-style tower alone to the "new cable mess" photo collage, but they pretend there's no cable mess on the tower!)

I'm VERY glad I don't have a massive tower in my office.

Interesting.
We priced out the 12-core, 32gb, 512gb, Dual D500 for $7237 (thats with our company discount)
Now, the refurb 12-core, 32gb, 1TB, Dual D700 is $7479.

Thats just $250 difference that would otherwise cost us $1034 to customize new.

With my Photography and Graphics business taking off, I could sure use one of these but the price is still slightly too steep.

I'm thinking 2K even is the sweet spot on these for the non-super-duper-pro consumer.

I'm running a 2012 Mac Mini now and I love it, 16gig RAM but there are portions where it stalls and stutters dealing with lots of RAW files.

These prices look somewhat tasty.

Please do not hate me: Can you install Snow Leopard on them natively?

Jiminy! Still a pretty penny for one of these, even refurbished. Pro it must definitely be: pro prices for pro performance. Though I bet some competitive alternatives are considerably cheaper.

Not bad!

That's about $1300 off the retail price!
Still, u have to pay taxes.
I get a 6% discount from Apple as a business so I can get a new machine for the same price.
Let's see if Intel releases their new processor soon.
The new Mac Pros are gonna cost the same and be faster, take less power and use faster memory.
I think I'm gonna wait...

At the speed the current models are running. any incremental bump from intel isnt gonna make a noticeable difference.

It is but in the past third parties have made replacements for similar apple SSD. I don't know if anyone has made them for MP yet, hopefully we'll see it at some point.

I wouldn't hold my breath for large and cheap SSD replacements for the MP anytime soon - the volume they sell of MPs are way lower than MacBooks. I wish there was a configuration of the MP that would take standard 2.5" ssds or M.2
