I have a late 2011 Mac Pro and despite it's age, it stills works very well, except for its optical drive: Suddenly it stopped accepting any media. When I try to insert a CD or a DVD it makes a strange noise and then eject it. I've tried using different CDs and the problem persists.

Does anyone know what can I do to solve this?

You could also try blowing out dust bunnies from the DVD drive using compressed air or try a head cleaning DVD.

Try resetting the PRAM by rebooting while holding down the command-option-p-r key combination until you hear the boot chime a third time.

Then reset the SMC: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201295

If none of those work, consider buying an external USB superdrive instead of replacing the internal. If you buy a new MacBook Pro you will need an external because they no longer come with internal DVD drives.
