I am like a few others and have a 12" G4 Powerbook. It was a great machine at the time but now it is a 50-50 chance that it can play a youtube video. I use it only when I have to, say 10%, which is when I have to have a portable computer and my iPhone or other PDAs won't do. It spends most of it's time asleep. I do use it for the occasional download. I really wish I had more use for it but it can't play HD video so I can't even repurpose it as a media center. I'm not sure what is the best use for it. It's the same with the Cube, such a shame.

I have an Acer laptop I got at Circuit City for $299. I needed something with a PCMCIA slot to transfer video footage off of Panasonic P2 cards. I pretty much only use it for that and checking my email and surfing when on the road.

MBP currently, the older pre unibody version.

As soon as a new MB Air is released and it has more than 2GB of ram, I am probably in. If not I will see how the MB Pro is treating me during clinicals and maybe step up (down?) to a 13" MBP.

I have a Sony VAIO VGN-Z46GD and I am more than happy with it. 13", 6GB RAM, Dual Core 2.8Ghz and hybrid g45/9300m gs with Win7 pro x64 :)

work lappy- T400 1ghz FSB, 2.4ghz core2prov, 2gb ram.

it does the job ~40hrs a week, and goes with me when needed, but on my time i use the MP when possible. I see no point is buying my own notebook until Apple make one better than my MP, then my MP will be the server at home.

How do you like the T400? I've been really tempted by it (if only it didn't run Windows lol) and have found a few deals on them for around $600 new. Does yours have Win7 on it?

12" PowerBook and iPhone

I ended up with a nice staggered setup.

It's surprising how often I'm actually OK browsing the web or reading emails with just the iPhone.
It's not perfect but doable - while very portable.

If I need to type a longer email or if I want to keep a few web pages open at the same time my 12" PowerBook does the trick.
I often use it on my dining table if I need more space than I have on my desk (where my MP sits).
And it's keyboard is IMHO still much nicer to type on than anything Apple currently offers. Including the complete MBP lineup.

But of course it is showing its age when accessing YouTube videos and with other computation intensive tasks. Yet size-wise my 12" PowerBook is still perfect IMHO. Better than anything else Apple currently has (except the iPhone).
The 13" is OK (and would be my current choice if the 12" would break down) but it's still quite a bit wider and longer and with a less appealing keyboard. And it has no dedicated GPU either.

If the Apple tablet is any good I might actually migrate from the 12" PB to one.
It'll depend on its screen resolution and email typing abilities. Who knows it might actually work well with a Bluetooth keyboard...
And I wouldn't be surprised if it actually has a full-sized slider keyboard, knowing that Jobs is a keyboard fan.

6months old, zero issues. Running an XP SOE.

there are hundreds in the environment I work in ATM, and thousands more a few blocks away, and they seem to be very VERY reliable from a tech's point of view. Haven't had any hardware faults at my site yet. Can't say the same about the 1yo HP's.

For the money, I would get one. Black hard plastic case seems to be pretty durable.

Used to have an iBook (actually, still have it in the closet, but don't use it) and then a MBP from work.

Now I just use my iPhone for my mobile needs.

Only time I lug a MBP is on longer trips where I need a laptop in my hotel.

I don't have a Mac Pro yet (getting one next month - currently have a 24" iMac) so I don't know if I qualify for this, but...

My everyday (used at least 6 hours per day) laptop is a 400Mhz G4 15" Powerbook. ~9 years old, hasn't missed a beat - gets lugged around all over the place in a soft case - running 9.2, 192Mb RAM, 10Mb drive - use it for admin, light Photoshop, Web-creation.

Haven't tried Final Cut Pro on it yet though. I'll wait until I've upgraded to 256Mb before I try that... :)

Voted 13 inch MBP but have the 13 inch MB. Use it for my web stuff and leave the mac pro for crunching WCG and video editing. Selling the MB soon though. The design is great but slower than my old G4 powerbook I used to own. Not worth the money IMHO to buy apple laptops when laptops from other vendors are almost half price. Yeah, windows blows but I'll rip that crap off and install linux for a smokin laptop.

My Powerbook g4 12 comes with me everywhere, other wise its the Windows Desktop, i can't afford a mac Desktop yet.... ALthough i might get a display adaptor and try my powerbook hooked up to a display.

I own a 13" White Macbook from 2007.

My school provides me with a 15" Macbook Pro, but I rarely used it this semester because it was in for repairs twice. First to the school's contractor, that couldn't fix it. Then to Apple. The optical drive won't read DVDs, or burn them.

I've no sidekick (unless you count a phone for net access) but at some point ill probably get a 15" MBP. I would feel kinda guilty that my pro would end up going disused if i had a portable machine though.

I notice the 15" is pretty popular... what is driving that??? I use the 13" because I am very concerned about mobility--the 15" is just too big to carry around. In fact, the 13" is quite big as well. Why Apple doesn't do a 10"-11" is beyond me. I would buy one in a second.
