Don't think so

My Mac Pro was doing the reboot on wake long before I installed either Parallels or VM Ware

Ok I found someone's post on a random forum and he said that 100% that the cause of reboot on wake comes from running parallels before you put the mac pro to sleep. So I tested it I put the mac pro to sleep and woke it about 4-5 times and wakes up fine, then I run parallels and then quit parallels and put the mac pro to sleep and woke it up and voila~! it rebooted right after wake.

So its just a parallels bug thats inflicted with the mac pro!! Relief!!!:D

No parallels here either.

2008 Mac Pro 8-Core 2.8GHZ 10GB RAM (2GB from Apple 8GB from OWC, all stress tested no problems).

I'm 90% sure that for me the problem is related to firewire (as effing usual .... ). I removed my devices a day ago and have not had any issues since. That said, this is an unacceptable workaround for me. My audio interface is now unusable and I had to rip apart my WD FW800 MyBook 500GB and put the drive internal.

Depressing ...

My only addition is that the problem started on Day 2 of my Mac Pro owning. I have an absurd number of volumes which I've been cracking away at consolidating. The issue began after adding volumes, but, like i said, I think it's the firewire.

Apple, PLEASE FIX THIS AND PLEASE LET IT BE A SOFTWARE UPDATE.

On the downside, I think I just killed a HD I installed today. I probably shouldn't have done the aforementioned test so rapidly and let the HDs spin down first. :(

Did you really kill the drive?!

Man, I'm brutal to HDs and <knock on wood> I'm still yet to lose one.

I'm talking unplugging, swapping in and out of enclosures, removing enclosures without unmounting, etc., etc..

Bad practices but I haven't had a good reprimand to teach me lesson.

Writing this is probably a terrible idea .....

no paralells, have fusion,

have had reboot issue.

i just turned off sleeping in the settings

Mine never did this when I first got the computer. Then I installed parallels and it's been the same as yours since.

OK, i'm going to put this all in capitals for emphasis...

IF YOUr MACHINE IS DOING THIS, TAKE IT BACK!!!!

THEY HAVE NO OPTION BUT TO EXCHANGE IT!!!

THE ONLY WAY WE'RE GOING TO GET APPLE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IS IF IT'S COSTING THEM MONEY!!!!

DON'T LIVE WITH IT, GO IN FOR AN EXCHANGE!!!!

i'm on my second machine, been having RAW, did the token walk through with applecare today, taking it into the store tomorrow. am fully expecting to walk out of there with a new machine....

As suspected. I found this http://forums.logitech.com/logitech/board/message?board.id=macmice&thread.id=1101

and my problems were solved. Been running fine for 5 days.:D

Hmm interesting.. I have a logitech mouse on leopard as well and d/led the program as well from logitech.com. You know what I think leopard is still so young in development that maybe more than 1 program causes these sleep issues. I remember a while back azureus made my mbp crash everytime until I d/led the newest version.

Running Winblows on Parallels really messes with my workstation. I've just about abandoned running any kind of windows on me mac pro. Parallels isnt the reason for my reboots, it was the firewire on the front port. Any time I had a firewire cable plugged in to it, I'd get a reboot after wake.

Since then, I have installed several updates. Haven't retested the firewire in front yet.

What's the procedure if you buy it online custom configured? can you still bring it to an apple store or do you have to ship it back? and who pays for the shipping?

hmmm.... good question. you can always call and ask.

if you do need to send it in, i'm pretty sure apple takes care of shipping.

I had RAW before I installed Fusion. Never tried Parallels.

Maybe Vista is better than Leopard . . . it never happens in Vista. :D

Which makes me think it's not firmware but something in Leopard that's screwey.

Sure is taking Apple a HECK of a long time to fix, though.

Is resetting the PRAM as easy as cmd+opt+p+r during boot on the MP or is there a reset button on the board?

My problems with reboot on wake didn't happen until the 2600 firmware update.

Bootcamp with XP pro on second partition.

Now I'm wondering if it started for me at that point also. I really want to say yes. The factory install never refused to wake (10.5.1) and slept peacefully. I wiped that and reinstalled, completely updated, installed all my apps, I go to wake her up, click, fans blast, chime, "WTF!?".

How is it escaping so many people that there are so many things that could cause this and since the PRAM reset fixes it for some people and leave it broken for others (me .... ) our best effort is search for common threads between everyone it affects.

In the meantime, I'm not wasting any more time on actively troubleshooting this myself. I've been through this with a MBP countless times. I'm convinced it's a bad driver and Apple needs to fix it. I had said before and I still think that for me it's the FireWire audio driver. The 2600HD suggestion has me wondering a little bit.

I'm turning off sleep until someone figures this out. Way too frustrating over a feature I don't even really like! :)

Getting a replacement from Apple at this point seems like a total luck of the draw. I don't feel like dealing with that just over sleep.

Possible clue...

Hi Guys, been following the forum for quite a while... (yet still a newbie... I know...)
I have the same sleep problem with my MacPro, and following advise on the forum tried to reset my PRAM - but I couldn't. I simply didn't get the second chime, and the computer booted normally.
To make a long story short, I did an Erase/Install for the whole system. Following that the problem remained, BUT - I was able to reset the PRAM. Once I did this the problem disappeared and it worked beautifully for a few weeks, UNTIL - yesterday I installed the updates from Apple and the problem has now reappeared, and as before I cannot reset my PRAM.
Note: before I installed the updates i did a 'repair permissions' through the mac os x install disk.
Other than this I made no other changes so I am certain that this is what caused the problem to reappear.

I hope this is on any help...

Are you sure you're doing it correctly. You don't give any details of process. I've never had any issue resetting pram. Just keep holding the keys. Do not release until you've heard the third chime. (note: if you continue holding it it will just keep rebooting.) if you can't reset the pram for certain I would bring your computer in. More worrying than this stupid sleep issue.

Thanks for the great tip. Unfortunately some of us need to use our macs not play at the genius bar over a potential software issue. Maybe you have that time but don't yell at us. If you think that's going to expediate a fix .......

Will you be heading back when the new one does the same?

OK, what part of "for emphasis" don't you understand? since when did that qualify as yelling?

how about instead of referring to trying to get a brand new computer to work the way it's supposed to as "playing" you try not being a d!ck...

I had a ton of reboots the first few weeks I owned my Mac Pro. I'm not sure what did it—I tried a bunch of things—but I haven't had a reboot in more than a week. I now have my Mac Pro set to sleep after 5 minutes and have not had a problem. I have even slept it over night with no problems.

One strange thing though is that my resolution changes to 800x600 after an extended sleep or shutdown. Every morning and several times during the day I have to open the system preferences and hit the "detect monitors" button. I have an old Sony Trinitron monitor that is probably just not compatible with the new system.

And while I was having reboot problems I tried to get my computer replaced, but it is not as easy as the above poster applies. I was told that since I was not within the 14 day window that I would have to take it to an Apple shop for repairs. I took it into a local shop and they could not repeat the reboot problem so they just gave it back to me and charged me $45 for not having anything wrong. Even my resolution problem could not be duplicated in the shop. How do I know how much they tested it? They may have just turned it on a few times and not given it enough time in sleep mode to have problems. The guy at the store had no idea new Mac Pro's were having any problems until I showed him the thread on the Apple Support site with almost 19,000 views.

Just reset the pram and smc and just hold onto the mac pro and just wait for the updates.

Ever since I installed the 8800gt card and reset the pram and smc, I've yet to get a reset on wake but the fan on the 8800gt roars up for a good minute after a long sleep..
