I am astounded that so many folks have been predicting the MacPro's demise... Mac Pro will always be here in one form or another... Next time you folks visit the Pentagon or any serious military industrial complex, check out what computers are being used... MAC PRO Need I say more ???

Have not had my invite yet!

Pleased for the Pro sad for my pocket! my current one will have to give good service for while yet

You might actually want to look into what NEC, Eizo or even Samsung have on offer. Much better performance for much less money.

Regarding the News/Rumor: Finally.

Actually I have been looking. I've got an ACD 30 that is good but getting old. As a professional freelance designer I need to keep my eye on what's out there in case any of my current stuff dies.

There are no 30" monitors of a comparable quality to the Apple 30 that are even close to what I paid for mine. Lots of options if I'm willing to drop to 27" but to be honest I'd be looking to step up in size. Of course, if you know better?,

This thing had better be MIND-BLOWING after the wait!!

I think we deserve specs powerful enough to move heaven and earth after this! If it's just a new processor/speed bump, an improved GPU and a RAM/OS upgrade, I think a few people might have something to say about that...

What I don't understand is that professionals are willing to rely on a product without any kind of road map that can be discontinued at any point. Apple make no commitment to updating it regurlarly, and even if they did, they would reserve the right to change their minds in an instant without warning.

That doesn't seem like a company that professionals would do business with.

The fact is, there are a lot of professionals that are somewhat locked into Macs because they use Mac-dependent software like Logic Pro or FCP. If you've invested a lot of time and money in working with these programs it's not so easy to just switch to a pc and new apps. Basically, if I switched to a more affordable pc (and believe me, I've considered it!) I would not be able to open any of the projects I've created in Logic Pro.

Precisely. Multi workstations facilities may experience too high of a risk with a platform which lacks long term stability support from any manufacturer. Also, the so often expressed enthusiasm to buy apple product site unseen, here on MR makes, me believe for an absence of significant business users. As with any technology or device, one would expect a careful of the product before blindly jumping into acquisition.

The margins are much higher on the pro gear. This is true in almost every market. Higher margin, lower volume. Current Mac Pro clone's can be had for 1/3-1/2 the price.

Actually, if you price an HP Z 820 with dual Xeon processors, you will find that the upcoming Mac Pro will be comparable in price, albeit that the Z 820 will have more PCIE, memory and drive slots and a better and wider selection of GPU's.

I'm guessing that a lack of a Quadro card option in the iMac and Mac Book Pro will will be reason enough for Photoshop and Premiere users to be purchasing Mac Pro's, the same as MCAD users as myself will be.

I for one am happy for those who need these incredible machines, finally Professionals get what they where waiting for soooo loooong.

Wish I could afford one but on the other side it would be complete overkill for what I use it for.

What nobody mentioned until now is that if there is a redesign then you know for sure Apple won't abandon the MacPro for at least another 3-5 years, why redesign if it will be discontinued next year?
But, why redesign, this design is timeless and it does what it needs for Pro users.

I wouldn't confuse the enthusiasm with actual buying decisions. It will be good to see an update. Will I buy it the day it is announced? No.

I was convinced Apple were killing the Mac Pro...

I've never been so glad to be wrong! WAYHAYY!

...now then, when's the Xserve coming back? ;)

That is what we sorely need in our department. It really is too bad that Apple couldn't keep up in the enterprise server market. I am sure the support alone was enough to drive them mad.

I do see the interesting things people do with Minis:

but a machine as powerful or more powerful than a Mac Pro that is rack-mountable (and I don't mean a MacPro sitting upright in a rack taking up more room than necessary) is what many places sorely need.

Are you sure the Dell 30" isn't comparable on the inside (which is what counts)?

ugh, why are they wasting their time updating this out of date relic!
Steve Jobs must be turning in his grave that they've not yet killed off the mac pro.

Face it, they are not needed any more.
Everything you ever need you can do on an ipad.
If you can't do it on an ipad, then its not worth doing.
Epic Apple fail!!

Honesty, I wanted to vote you up in appreciation, but its way cooler too see how low we can go.

-96 and counting!

is that a new record?
My comment might have been slightly exaggerated, but wow.
i can only be impressed with myself at this point!

Sorry everyone, this rumor is false. They are discontinuing the Mac Pros and replacing them with very powerful MacBook Pros.

OK, now that we think there will be another refresh, we can begin to agonise over whether or not to buy the first version.

The second rev will be better. Just imagine being in 2015 with an 'early 2012 Mac Pro'. How will you feel? Better wait for the 'early 2013'.

I hate to say it, but back in 2011, I was wanting to get a Mac Pro. I thought to myself - 'wouldn't I feel like an idiot if I got the 2010 right before they came out with the 2011 iteration'. I figured it was worth waiting a few months, but it turned into a year. I'm not holding my breath for the next update, provided this one has good specs.

Held Out

This is great news! I held out just in time for a new Mac Pro work station.

Now I need to decide which configuration to go with! Any suggestions based on using Adobe CS6 suite, Final Cut Studio while editing HD footage? Apple monitor?

Also, are the rumors holding true about nvidia graphics in the new line up?

Unfortunately, the ship has sailed for myself and others... we've purchased other machines. It's a self fulfilling prophecy for the Mac Pro. I'm not sure why Apple didn't simply kill it off.

Nearly 10 years and this design is still gorgeous! It really is one of Apples design classics.

and I join everyone else in saying ... YES! NEW MAC PROS!
