Gulftown, nice!!!

How much do ya think we are spending here?

$3000...
$4000...
$5000...

I would want 8 to 12 GB of RAM, and I am thinking a top of the line ATI GPU will be an option.

Now all we need are apps that utilize the full power of all these silly cores. :)

Maxwell render takes up all 8 easily enough and scales almost linearly... With renders generally taking me a few days gulftown would mean shaving a day off render times, thats huge. Some people actually do need the extra power...

Those who were thinking that the switch to intel would bring the prices down and the speeds up were and are dead wrong. Although the prices did go down for Apple but not for costumers. As for the speeds (a lot for complaining the the G5 could not hit the 3GhZ barrier) check this out and complain: http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/power/hardware/595/specs.html. Apple has turned into a greedy company that cares the least for those that kept it afloat, the professionals. They killed Shake, Livetype, left Color crippled and worked nothing in the past two years on the FCS apps. Time to switch to a company that makes computers and not shinny toys.

Actually the prices have gone down for most of Apple's systems so you're wrong.

You'll be disappointed when you go to buy an HP, Dell, or Lenovo workstation and it costs as much or more than the Mac Pro. But have fun with that!

Breaking news.

Lots of people already have nice monitors and don't want to look at a mirror when they are using a computer.

Breaking news:

You can get a new iMac & still use your old monitor with it, & it would show something else! Macs have been able to use multiple screens for years now, even before the Intel transition. If you already knew that, I'm sorry.

I want one! Sounds like a winner of a chip and computer. Guess I will have to wait for Spring.

I didn't realize that you could buy an Imac without paying for a monitor that you might not need or want....

;)

You'd have to have the brightness all the way down!! - you cant see yourself under normal conditions on an iMac screen - way too bright.

Adam

On many displays having the brightness at minimum value is the only way I can work. Anything higher makes it difficult to read text because of the intensity of the white around it. A soft, muted background is far better for human vision than staring straight into a backlight.

You're wrong if you think reflections are reduced by turning up the brightness. In fact, by throwing more light onto your own face, shirt, etc. you're increasing the amount of reflected light and making your eyes work even harder to cope with the intensity of both the direct and reflected images. It's an instant headache for a lot of people.

"pitiful 32 Gb of memory" are you kidding me? I bet u have never have the need for 32 gb of ram not to mention 128 whatever processor you need. BE REASONABLE MAN.

Hopefully it will support more than the pitiful 32 GB of memory like the current model. Life begins at 128 GB, so I sure hope the new model supports that. With 12 cores / 24 threads, the machine will be a complete joke if the memory ceiling is still the same 32 GB.

Complete BS!

Having spoke with a friend who is a chief engineer at Apple. He told me there are no plans for any new mac pros, so these rumors are INVALID and don't make any sense. 2010 will not bring any new mac pros, sorry.. but I know this from inside information.

Do you really need 128GB of memory? DREAM ON!

No Mac Pro In 2010

32nm is pretty new even for intel.
the number produced will be so little, it will be so expensive.
i dun think many people will afford it, if it come to mac pro.

the core i7 in imac is not even a i7,more like i5 that call i7 so that it can sell more chips.

the entry level mac pro can be a faster CPU, that will finish off imac.

THERE WILL BE NO MAC PROS IN 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HOW MANY GOD DAMN TIMES DO I HAVE TO SAY IT? A FRIEND OF MINE WHO WORKS AT APPLE'S ENGINERRING TOLD ME THAT THESE ARE ALL FALSE RUMORS.

IF ANYTHING, NEW LAPTOPS.. BUT NO MAC PROS SINCE THE MAC PRO IS THE VERY LAST TO GET AN UPDATE.

Intel Is Also

If there are still any doubters ( I can't imagine there are) that Apple shouldn't of switched over to Intel, this should be shut them up.
Intel are moving at incredible pace with their chips, and all of us are reaping the benefits.

Apple would of been completely irrelevant had they not switched, apart from the ipod or iphone of course.

RUNNING OUT OF XEON PROCESSORS ALSO.. NANOFROG ON HERE TOLD ME THAT THE MAC PRO'S DAYS ARE NUMBERED.. MEANING, APPLE MIGHT DO AWAY WITH IT.. THIS IS ACTUALLY A TRUE STATEMENT FROM ONE OF THE ENGINEERS.

Give us names :D

How stupid do you think people are?

only time will tell
apple wants profits.. keeping an mac pro for 2 years? i guess not

don't forget that imac..4 cores in an imac? no way! they're going to make it even thinner

and see.. a 4 core imac, before 2010 ;)

TO LIKELY REPLACE IT WITH SOMETHING ELSE, I IMAGINE, IF THERE IS ANY TRUTH AT ALL TO WHAT YOU'RE SAYING. OMG WHY ARE WE TYPING IN ALL CAPS??

What exactly do you need 128gb of RAM for? Are you trying to create a stable warp field?

I have to ask.
What are you rendering?

Maxwell render takes up all 8 easily enough and scales almost linearly... With renders generally taking me a few days gulftown would mean shaving a day off render times, thats huge. Some people actually do need the extra power...

I had to register simply to say this is so far off it's crazy. Yes there will be new Mac Pros in 2010.

Did you really think there would be an ADDITIONAL thirteen months without even an update when you know Intel is releasing these? If you are speaking of a redesign of the enclosure that would be an entirely different matter.

Breaking news.

Lots of people already have nice monitors and don't want to look at a mirror when they are using a computer.

Not to mention we'd love to be able to easily upgrade our computer, have multiple internal hard drives, etc.

I hate imacs, and I'll never buy one.

If you get a MP with one i9, it will have 6 physical and 12 logical cores. If you get it with two i9s, it will have 12 physical cores and 24 logical cores.

Breaking news.

If that's their case then all in ones aren't for them.

Of course, but Bubba's point was that there is not an option like that for less than $2,000. Did you read the original post he was referring to?

How many times have we heard stuff like this?

I know. There is no way the Mac Pro is going anywhere. It isn't the best selling Mac, but it has a high mark up and a devoted client base of professionals that need any speed increases that it can give.

The most important performance jump would bring if Apple finally decides to make SL NUMA aware. It is good for single socket servers, but crappy in regards to multi socket systems.

Remember the days when rumors about Apple using a new chip in their machines were enticing? Once the Intel switch announcement was made four years ago, I knew these days were over; Apple would use a range of Intel processors for their line (or AMD, if they pulled far ahead), and there would be no more surprises. I considered this a great thing for Apple, as they would have a clear idea of future performance levels when designing hardware and software, and simply wouldn't have to expend energy on the question of how to obtain processors fast enough to stay competitive.

Of course Apple is going to use these chips in the Mac Pro next year. The only other option would be to discontinue the Mac Pro line entirely.

I remember them. I remember it well. I remember despite the huge costs of co-developing the PowerPC chip and actually developing the motherboard and other components, the top Macs were cheaper. I remember Macs were refreshed every 6-9 months, not every 12-16. I remember the promise of CHEAPER Macs as part of the transition to the Intel "mass market". I remember the current PowerMac/MacPro enclosure design is about 7 years old. I remember a time when Macs offered more options than PCs, not far fewer. I remember...

For all that extra money you get a dated video card, no eSATA, no HDMI, no Blu-Ray,...What a joke.
