How long did it take that test to run? - I'm to busy playing FarCry =D

I was watching TV, but I think it takes like 8-10 mins. The download is what sucks...almost 600 megs.

I just installed the catalyst 6.8 drivers and I'll run it again.

I know, seriously. 597 megs? For a benchmark? I DL'ed it, but I'm gunna trash it before long.

Graphics vs. Whirring

FarCry
Everything maxed out. Very High settings for anti-aliasing & anistrophic filtering. I'm getting 55-76 FPS on average. I've never seen FarCry look this good . . . EVER.

The x1900 is fairly loud, in comparison to the rest of the machine. It's "whirs" I guess. Sounds like any 'ol mildly loud case fan. But it's much more quiet than my AMD system, so I'm not complaining.

The visual performance is what counts, and it's astonishing!

Firstly, thanks for doing all the tests!

Secondly, I am a Macist, and as such haven't really ever owned many games, but I am pretty sure that if (and when) I get games on my Mac Pro, I'm going to crank the volume so loud I won't be able to hear anything, let alone average whirring.

Sorry for the newb question, but just to verify, the Catalyst drivers are just an update that will bump the speed in intensive graphical situations.

Well, now i'm in a pile of crap. Everytime i boot back into OS X, I get a kernel panic. Not good.

I'm going to rip the XP drive out and try rebooting. This is not cool.

Better/newer drivers usually = better quality and speed....in most cases, but sometimes not. That's what I'm trying to see now.

Is it normal to only have 2 gigs of ram in windows but 3 in osx?

Edit: Attached is 3dmark06 with cat 6.8 drivers. Not much difference.

Crap. So I get a kernel panic every single time. It boots up, loads finder, pops up a message about OS X crashing, then I get the kernel panic. I've reseated all the HDDs and the RAM. I'm at a loss for what to do. Any ideas?

Eww... I think a reinstall of OS X is the only option left. :( Please let us know how it goes, I hope it's not some hardware problem.

Yeah I'd reinstall OSX.

I reinstalled on mine before I installed windows, but I don't see how that would make a diff. My OSX is working fine.

Thought about that. If I don't have my MacPro in a week, I'm filing a discrimination lawsuit.... Okay just kidding. :D I'll just camp out in front of Apple HQ with other disgruntled future X1900 owners with a huge bonfire, torches and pitchforks. LOL

I'm with you dood! Ordered on the 9th of August, and now seeing people who ordred after me getting their machines!?!?!? WTF?!?!?!?!

Patience is a virtue I supposse, just not one of my virtues :D

Yeah, even a re-install didn't work. Now I think i'm seriously SOL. The weird part is, booting into windows works great. I just can't get into OS X. Grrrrr...

On the lawsuit or the protest with the bonfire? LOL I figure the lawsuit would work good, I mean if a guy can't find the volume control on his iPod and sues Apple over it, anything should go right? :D

my macpro with x1900 came today. it works fine except for bootcamp.

the first part of the windows install works fine until it reboots to finish the install, then i just get a black screen :(

Did you disconnect all USB and Firewire devices too?

everything but my mouse and keyboard...

UPDATE: Ok, so I finally got an Archive and Install to work. Now, I get a kernel panic everytime I click restart. By that I mean, it now boots up ok. I can use Tiger no problem. Everything works peachy. But then when I point to the apple menu, and click shutdown, or restart, I get a kernel panic. This really is frustrating. At least it's working to some capacity now.

Hey, could somebody do me a favor?

Run BattleField 2 using these settings:
- All quality settings set to highest
- Resolution set to 1600 x 1200
- 4x AA

Then tell me what a typical framerate is? You can use "Fraps" to measure the framerate while playing the game. Just download it from http://www.fraps.com/download.php

I'm on the fence about replacing my SLI system with a Mac Pro. However, if BF2 has a good framerate, then I might just go for it.

Thanks for the help.

Man that looks like one of the most beautiful graphics cards I have ever seen.

It's pretty beefy. It's also very ... red. I must say, I'm usually a fan of NVIDIA's cards. Their drivers are a whole let better. In any case, the x1900 XT is amazing.

it would be great if it really is quiet, how scary that may be ;)
it might be to early to say this, but please buy dark messiah when it comes out and test it for me :p

anyways i hope you enjoy it :)

actually because of the larger design and the larger fan that required the larger design, they are quieter than say... a Radeon 9800 Pro :p* It's a deeper "woosh" than that screachy squeal of a tiny-ass fan.**

spooooya mine just shipped.... just to refresh anyone that hasn't seem my like one post i was crying yesterday cause i thought apple hated canadians or just forgot about us up here but nopes i was just going to bed and just as i was closing my powerbook i saw the message pop up in the bottom corner and checked it out. and it said that it just shipped... i got the pro with the 1900 and bluetooth ordered it on the 25th and had an estimated time of sept 25th... and yes live in canada... lots of cows moo moo moo

You guys are funny with your 1900 XT's. You marvel at it like like an isolated tribe seeing a picture for the first time.

I've been using a 1900XTX in my PC since March and enjoyed its visual impact. From the sound of it, it seems most of you also have some sort of PC gaming rig. Did you guys not bother getting a high end card for gaming?
