Agreed but Apple silicon really shows its stuff best in the mobile space. The latest Intel iMac holds its own quite well thanks to adequate (but noisy) cooling.
I can’t hear the fans on my 2020 iMac unless I use all CPU threads to 3D render or if I play Cyberpunk 2077. Nothing else has fired up the fans for me.

I will say utilizing 100% GPU for rendering in Windows 10 generates way less fan noise than 100% CPU rendering in Catalina. It isn’t even close. Maybe someday Blender will use GPU to render in macOS like it does in Windows.

Not as much as people here are supposing. Many workers have been allowed to take company laptops and desktops home.

That's what surprised me with a sudden demand for work from home. It seems to me most offices I visit just use laptops. So, I just wondered why they didn't just use those? Although a fair number use desktops. Which aren't so convenient for work from home. Especially since so many had to and still do have to go into the office occasionally.

Same with schools. I had assumed school was at the point where all students were using iPads or laptops in the classroom. Since I kept reading about school districts providing laptops and iPads to all students. All these years. What happened to all them? Were a bunch of schools using pen and paper still for all class work. Were they using desktops or just the occasional computer lab still?

Although I can picture a lot were using old junk. Not up to the task of video conferencing, running a VPN, doing a lot more in web apps. Along with cloud syncs.

My OCD is coming out - is anyone else bothered by the formatting of that table? Makes it look like the 1Q21 Market Share is grouped with the 1Q20 Shipments... Just a bit of an eye twitcher.

1. Apple silicon blows away the current iMacs.
2. The iMac design is a decade old and needs to be updated ASAP.

My fans only kick in when I use X-Plane 11.

This clearly shows that there is a demand for Macbooks. But for good quality-well designed Macbooks.
It is quite obvious that the demand has critically decreased for the entire Macbook line since development was literally abandoned for 4 years 2016-2019 and many problems plagued the line with the worse keyboard ever designed among many other things.
And now they claim that that the demand increased...If many users did not upgrade for many years due to a problematic product line, when they fix it, that is what is actually going to happen. Demand will increase.
But Apple did not talk that the demand stalled and sometimes decreased for Macbooks during the 2016-19 period.

I am impatiently waiting for the rumored 14inch model with a M1X chip. I have had my MacBook Pro since 2012. might as well go all in after waiting all these years. My tax return money is ready!

Yes. The M1 Air is a compelling product, combined with a keyboard that feels like my 2012 rMBP and no touch bar.

Although Apple is at the 4th rank, its market share is mostly the same as the 5th, and far far less than the first three.

Maybe people are buying up the Intel chip Macs before you can't buy one anymore?

Until there is a breakdown of M1 Macs bought vs Intel Chip Macs.

Logically, with the M1 Macs being the lowest cost Macs you can buy since Nov 2020, it stands to reason that the M1 Macs should be to best selling Macs in Q1 2021.
