Thank you so much Diatribe! This thread has helped me a lot with my first iBook. Many cheers to you! And more flowers! Hope you don't have allergies!

Well Done, thanks alot, also you may want to add iPod software, such as iPod rip and volume booster

Thanks for moving it. I should've done it but I have just been too busy lately with moving to another country, etc...
It desperately needs an update too, I'll try to do that in the next one or two weeks. Thanks again for moving it.

This thread is officially dead. I will not update it anymore.

From now on please only check this link for the new Mac Beginner's Guide:

http://guides.macrumors.com/Mac_Beginner%27s_Guide

I am in the process of restructuring everything, linking and including a lot more content. Please stay tuned... I will post again once it is done.
I like the guide a lot, good job Diatribe. In my signature :D to help the n00bies. ;) :)

The basic restructuring is done. I'll add more content in the following days.
There are and will be links to guides that have not yet been written, because I can't do everything at once. If someone wants to write some of the things that I put in there feel free. I'll add more of the guides I'd like to see over time.

Thanks. Spreading the word will help eliminate a lot of redundant questions.

I added pretty much everything of what I think should be in there, I am sure I have missed some things especially in the links section but I'll go over this again when I have the time.
As for the missing guides and articles I'll try to start with these as soon as possible but would be very glad if there would be some help with those.

Thanks also to all that have contributed to this guide, as I seem to have missed some small things. :)

any good alternatives to abode acrobat and ways better than GIMPshop to make GIMP like ps or even freeware alternatives that are already aqua/cocoa and have the look power and feel of ps?
thanks

You could try Seashore, very early in development, but very usable... and it's free... :)

I added opera to the wiki entry two days ago, nice topic.

Thanks a lot for the hand. :) I haven't been able to give it the update it deserves as I was pretty busy over the last year. A lot of info needs updating and changing.
It's still on my list but I am not sure how many people actually read it and whether it'd be worth the effort.

Excellent information! I'm now at the stage of experimenting with various types of files/loading/unloading deleting and finding Shareware/Add-ons or Utility programs that round off the Mac experience.

I'm still having issues with Mac .rar, I can't seem to figure out how it works once I've downloaded it. I also tried a Dvix download but wasn't having any luck with it either, however using VLC seems to have corrected that little snafu.
