I had to read your post multiple times to see if I misunderstood it, but nope, you are saying paying 82% more is better because of better specs even if you don't need them. Of course you would get better specs if you pay more!
No I'm saying there is a value disconnect, though with Apple that is often the case. There is always value but sometimes not as good as it could be given their pricing. What I am saying is that for the spec difference the regular Mini seems over priced considering the major spec jump for the Studio. And I would argue that the Studio is priced reasonably, so the regular Mini does seem overprice. However, if we were to assign a value to Mac OS and to the Apple brand, and to take those 2 dollar figures out of each offering, say at $600 combined, then the Mini is $500 for a nameless box without an OS and the Studio is $1400 by the same rationale, then the Mini doesn't seem as overpriced.

Yep...a mac studio with the upgraded m1 max, 64gb memory, and 1tb drive for $2500. That is a huge difference between the MBP that I was going to get. So, the order for the MBP is now canceled, the mac studio is ordered and I am keeping the MBA. Not a half bad deal.
Similar experience for me. Was going to order a MacBook Pro but then this Studio came along, so I changed my mind.

When the Mac Pro was announced a couple of years ago, I was floored when they revealed the ticket price. No way could I afford it. So I held on in hopes that they would announce a less expensive configuration. Was about to give up and get the MBP but this surprise Studio fits the bill rather nicely.

I ordered the M1 ultra with 64 GB ram and a 2 TB SSD. Will order one monitor for now but I expect to get two more in the upcoming months for a nice triple monitor setup!

Not ordering it. But very powerful computer and great display. Display could have been priced lower.

Well, the LG UltraFine 27 is basically the same thing in a cheap plastic enclosure for $1299, so $300 gets you a much nicer case, excellent camera, mics, and speakers, so maybe it's not as bad as it seems, but basically it's the same monitor. I doubt I will get one since I have the LG and it's been very nice, but If I hadn't bought it several months ago I would grab one. For all the fussing about the LG, I like mine a lot.

As to the stand, I wold order with the VESA and use my own arm as I arm mount all my monitors. Much like all the fuss about non standard devices like power cables, one of my pet peeves is that monitor stands are not all VESA based. I have so many that get removed because we use arms for all our desktops, but then when you go to retask a monitor you can never find the stand that went with it.

If I order from Apple now, it says the Studio Display will arrive end April and the Mac Studio with my config mid May 😱
Or see if I can find it on any resellers when they are available. No delivery dates as they are not available yet.

Leaning towards order them separately....and I might get the Display faster so I can run the MBA with it after traded in the iMac. Otherwise no big monitor 🥲
Gotta be strategic too.

Maybe someone in the sales and inventory management of the tech industry could answer this question, but what exactly is the purpose of a pre-order? Is that just to gauge how many people are interested in purchasing a product while getting a head start on producing more to meet the demand?

I'm curious as to why some products get pre-orders and others don't? Is that decision based more on whether or not they can predict how many units might be in demand?

I'm assuming they already have projected number of units they would sell on launch day, so the pre-order would be to buffer lead times on building more units incase the demand is more than expected? 🤔
