do they really have to return their testing units? she always shows off her RECENT generation collection of iPhones / iPads and I am like ... why would she buy all versions of iPads for her own unless its one of those "eat the rich" moments
She earns a lot from her videos and any tech purchases are tax deductible. I doubt having to purchase a computer matters much.

I am so glad I fixed my 24 in. Cinema Display just last week ($100 for the LCD replacement), instead of waiting for the Studio Display ($1599). Alh.

All these are Apple sponsored reviews so they're only allowed to give glowing praises otherwise they get their early access privilege revoked. Have to wait for unbiased reviews since they have to buy out of pocket.

Indeed, the review from The Verge is thorough and balanced... but only from the viewpoint of video, audio and graphics workloads. I am missing the following scenarios and aspects:
  • consistent comparison between Macs with M1 and Intel CPUs
  • consistent comparison between Mac and PC hardware
  • developer benchmarks
Good luck getting any of that from the others.

No one said the m1 max was slow; things can always be faster but who cares if you can export 2min quicker
Everyone who works in film/tv. Editing is based around how fast you can get stuff done. The faster the computer, the faster you are. Why are all these consumers coming out of the woodworks with ignorant opinions about a machine that's clearly not for them.

Apparently the reason the Display sits so high is so that people can fit the fat Mac Studio computer underneath the monitor. But that's also a design phail since it is ergonomically damaging the primary purpose to achieve a secondary purpose.
Does the display sit higher than an iMac? Because that's an extreme upgrade since most iMacs aren't at eye level for me and need to be raised by a stand.

I just searched quickly and saw a few reviews about the MBP M1 Max and problems about Illustrator lagging. Since, from what we know, the performance of the Mac Studio with M1 Max will perform a lot like the MBP one does with single threaded apps, I wouldn’t think the Mac Studio M1 Max would provide much better performance.
There are many reviews, but also many using the Adobe tools that are not M1 native yet, at that moment. Illustrator is in overall miles behind compared with Affinity Designer in user experience / speed. I am slowly switching more and more in Designer for al my vector illustrations.

I remember when we had time to go get coffee while our files opened.
When compiles took forever (in the 68k days) I used to read various technical manuals we had lying around while waiting. When the PPC/metrowerks came out I couldn't do that anymore because it was so fast. Today I have to make time to keep up, since everything's so much faster. Funny how things are, right?

Yup, faster than everything else. But, faster than anything you actually do or need. That is where we are at.
They actually gave an example of real-world usage: 4x scrubbing on a 4:2:2 4K timeline. That’s actually impressive and quite useful. They also claimed that a Mac Pro struggled in the same operation.

Right, but you can assume that the performance wouldn’t get worse as Adobe does their M1 native work, so those comparisons even now still have value. The thing that’s MORE important though (as I’ve been doing some searching this morning), is that single thread performance doesn’t vary a huge amount going up through the product range. If you find any Adobe native review running on any M1, that’s still going to be very close to what the Studio’s capable of.

Speak for yourself! As someone who works with After Effects everyday, faster rendering meets my needs.

The M1 is designed for basic user needs. The M1 Pro, Max, and Ultra chips are designed for power users needs.

If the Mac Studio is more power than you need, save yourself several hundred dollars and buy the Mac mini instead.

If I hadn't already bought myself a 16" MacBook Pro with M1 Max chip, I would have ordered a Mac Studio by now.

She’s got one but she has to return it back to Apple by next week and Apple will make her purchase one using her own money. I wonder if she’s going to buy it.
She says that and I believe that is the norm for most of the review units. But I think Apple lets people like iJustine and MKBHD keep the products they provide them with. Apple wants their millions of viewers to see their products in their videos as much as possible whether they are directly talking about them or the product is just sitting in the background of a shot.

why is the power button at the back when usbc and card reader are at the front?
