Just tried to buy a reasonably spec bumped m4 max Mac studio (1tb,64gb) at my job cus we needed one and B&H was sold out... so we tried apple, placed an order, and it was supposed to be to us in 3 hours... they cancelled the order. It appears to be gone from every store out there including apples which now says backordered 5-6 weeks.🤯 Is this new ones on the horizon or are people just going crazy buying them all?

Most likely retailer stock is drying up and most likely Mac Studio M5 announcements at WWDC26 in June.

I checked my local Micro Centers (Northern VA, DC, MD) and the highest config they have in stock are M4 MAX 14/32 36gb/1tb. Micro Center in Cambridge,MA has the 36gb/1tb configs and Flushing NYC has 1 M4 MAX 64tb/1tb in stock.

I debated on waiting for the Mac Studio M5, but bit the bullet last month and picked up my Mac Studio M4 MAX 16/40 64gb/1tb on sale for $2,609.99.

I know it's not the same, your spec'd Studio is priced about $3,000 at Apple. If you NEED a Mac now the 1TB/64GB M5 Pro Macbook Pro 16 is just over $3,000 and available now. You could dock it. Similar 2TB/64GB M5 Max MBP 16 is shudder well over $4,000. Good luck!

June is wayyy too far away for stock to be drying up. I heard it’s cus everyone is buying them up for AI machines all of a sudden. This one isn’t even for me personally. My boss was buying me a new one at work so my project manager could have my m2 cus her iMac isn’t cutting it

That's way too far into the future, and would represent a major fail on Tim Cook's part.

I think the last time something like that happened was with the iMac G5 or something.

Just upgrading to the M4 Max 16-core CPU / 40-core GPU (48GB of Unified Memory and 512GB storage) puts it at 3-4 weeks backordered.

I'm guessing we are looking at a simple press release in the coming months.

My company tried to order a standard M3 Ultra early last month, still waiting for it...
Standard Max and Ultra can usually be picked up in store.

I've noticed in the last couple of hours GMT that shipping estimates have moved way, way back.
For instance, a 16/40 config, with 64GB memory and 1TB SSD was available for next day delivery and collection yesterday and first thing this morning - and it's now listed as 23-30 April.

The usual stock configs are still available for immediate delivery or pickup, but once you start speccing them up the lead-times jump massively.

I am surprised they didn't update the Studio or the Mini having done the laptops, especially now that its become obvious if you want to run multiple XDRs at 120Hz, you need to have an M5 Pro or Max chip.

Mac Studio hasn’t been available at Best Buy or Amazon for the last 4 weeks. In fact, Best Buy is showing it as Sold Out. I won’t be surprised if it’s get updated in the next couple of weeks!

With B&H, you need to constantly check or set up an in-stock alert. As you said, the AI dorks are buying them all.

But they do pop up as available at random times.

On Saturday night I scooped up a 4TB/64GB M4 Max Studio for in-store pickup on Sunday morning. Right after I did so, that config was OOS again.

Do I realize that an M5 Max version is coming in June? Sure. Do I care? Not really. This machine will be overkill for me for several years to come.

Just tried the base model upgraded to 40-core GPU with everything else at base. The lead time says 9-10 weeks now.

Yeah, its usually a good sign when inventories dry up like this, but if it is just a spec bump you’d have thought they could do a press release any time.

At one point the thinking was that the new displays and Mac Studio would be launched together at WWDC, but the displays are out now and there’s hardly any refurb stock available either.

I’m now hoping to find a M4 machine in stock somewhere, the lead times seem to be getting worse from the online store.

The Max 16/40, 48, 1 TB configuration I would get now shows a June 22 ship date.

I'm waiting for the M5 Max version anyway, however long that takes.

I did mention this earlier in a different thread, but the 256GB is now July.

I wonder if you order the one you mention or the 256GB one would you get the M5 Max/Ultra etc instead or would they give you an option?

I'm just going to wait. I have a Mini M4 Pro that works just fine, so I'm not in a rush to get anything.
Makes sense to wait. I have a fine MBP M4 but I am going to buy a Studio too. I am just wondering if I was to order the M3 ultra with the July delivery if they'd swap it or configure it as an M5 etc. I haven't done it before like that.
