I’ve managed to find an M4 Max 16/40 with 64GB RAM and 1TB SSD in stock locally so am just going to grab that as I need something asap thanks to a number of poor decisions on my part 🙂

In Austria every Mac Studio M3 Ultra config has a delivering time of May 25-27th..

Thats a long time without Mac Studio - and not typical for apple.

So I think a M5 version is around the corner - press release in the next weeks..

Australia giving me 12-16 Weeks on any configuration of Mac Studio M3 Ultra. M5 announcement must be imminent, makes sense after Apple officially announcing the Mac Pro dead so we can all prepare for transition.

I think they will release it sooner. No way they will leave 3 months of sales off the table. M5 probably in the next week or two. Could even be April 1st.
That's probably a minuscule sales numbers consideration for Apple in the big picture. They'll release when they feel like they are ready to. WWDC seems pretty reasonable timing for marketing exposure. Studio sales are not their bread and butter by any means.

Apple is also affected by DRAM supply constraints. Their unified memory still relies on third party suppliers for DRAM, even though it is packaged together on the same substrate.

Or it could mean they are going to discontinue it. Seen that with Apple as well.
You seem salty over the Mac Pro's discontinuance

Have you read any rumors regarding the studio's demise? I mean the death of the Mac Pro has been one of the worst kept secrets coming out of apple for some time, where as the Studio seems to be a successful/profitable product - something that the Mac Pro could not claim.

They just updated Tahoe to cluster the Studio via TB5, so I don't see them discontinuing it.

Significant delays on Mini configurations (at least on the UK Apple Store) as well. I think that means M5s incoming, not no new desktops....

Yes and no. In the bigger picture, yes, but in terms of the immediate future, no. They've already secured all the DRAM they need for 1H2026.

we do not know how many of them they sell. No stats to be found.

the Mac mini is amazons number small pc seller.

not sure how the Mac Studio ranks in sells at amazon

True. But, there are only 3 months left in the 1H2026 time frame. I think Apple sees the future as possibly bleak for some of its product lines, due to memory availability. As the worldwide financial environment continues to deteriorate, I would not be surprised if Apple is keen to deplete as much M4 inventory as possible. During this period, they may hope to wrangle better prices on memory for future M5 production. By which time, it will likely be time for M6.

The next 18 months will probably be very tough for Apple and other companies to navigate.

No way are they going to discontinue the Mac Studio. That was the computer which was always destined to replace the Mac Pro and probably has more mass appeal now given the range of specs it comes in.

I bet its doing just fine in sales and will be around for a long time to come.

Agree, it is the successor to the Mac Pro.

Especially with Thunderbolt 5 the need for PCIe slots have been somewhat diminished. Just waiting to peripheral manufacturers to catch up.

It’s likely a combo of it being a hotter than usual machine and apple didn’t anticipate that, and the fact that they were probably in the process of winding down production for a possible refresh in late spring or summer.

The whole LLM thing, RAM prices etc have clearly impacted availability from Apple and the second hand market. I wonder if that's also had a knock-on effect for readiness of the M5-based models or if they'd always planned on announcing at WWDC, but hadn't anticipated the supply issues.

I just placed an order for the base M4 max studio and it says shipping express April 14-16 as I had cancelled my m4 Mac mini order.

Hey, that's exactly what I've got.

It smokes.

Like your payment methods these days.

B&H is completely sold out. Never saw that before, but this is the first time I've really paid attention to it. Usually when a new thing launches, they still have stock of the last model.

Hearing that 256GB options of the Ultra, and 128GB options of the max are showing as unavailable in many countries now.

I guess there’s more margin in the MBPs…
