How about a budget iMac based on the A17 pro chip. [yes, I know no way, but it is still a great rumor 😋]
I want to replace my 2012 iMac 27" soooooooooooooooooooo bad already.C'mon, Tim...editing and color grading 8K/6K/4K HDR on a 16" MBP XDR display just doesn't cut it. You know it, I know it, and the whole world of FCP and Resolve editors/creators know it. We don't want two blocks of aluminum cluttering up our desks. We want iMac, one cord to rule them all!
So, what's the hold-up? 27" 5K XDR iMac and 32" 6K XDR iMac Pro and 42" 8K+ XDR iMac Pro all with with TB5 and M3 are long overdue in the editor/creator space. I'm ready to place an order here for the 8K+ model. Bicycles for the mind, remember?
And then...we all can enjoy some HDR AppleTV+ on these devices when we've got some down time, Steve's TV dream finally come true.![]()
Well, I’m retired and can live with old software versions for what I do. It was an eye opener when I wanted to output one of my YouTube travel videos in 4K. My Mini couldn’t do it (it struggled at full HD output - I recall it took a couple hours to output a 15 minute video). But my current version iPad Pro did 4K without breaking a sweat.Woah, 2012. I've got the itch to upgrade my 2018 mini and move on from intel. Im fairly sure next year the intel machines will not get future OS upgrades.
The "2018" Intel mini was still being sold less than 12 months ago, in Dec 2022 (we bought one). I would expect it to get software updates for at least another 3 years.Woah, 2012. "Will" is a strong word, totally concrete in factM3 please.
Also, if M3 Macbook Air gets released next month, Vision Pro will get a "free" upgrade to M3 before it gets released.
Even my M2 16” MacBook Pro with 64 GB and 12 cores is only about 30% faster than my older 2020 14” MacBook Pro with intel and 16 GB of memory and 4 cores. I expect the M1 which is supposedly 30% slower to be comparable to that.At this point the Apple silicon, even M1 which launched all the way back in 2020 is still so powerful that the average user will see no real benefits expect for battery life with regards to Macbooks.
It would be the base level M3 and they need sales to get to volume for the pro and ultra chips release. While I'm as enthusiastic as anyone to see progress with new Macs and M3, I'm not seeing this in October. This is a trade-in program change, not rumors of new Macs. The link to new Macs leans on one old rumor and a prior apparent relationship between trade-in program update and new Mac releases. To paraphrase an old Wendy's line: "where's the rumors!" (for new Macs about to be launched)
I can imagine a press release update of iMac to M2, maybe the iPad Air we've seen rumored, probably not the iPad Mini 7 due to lack of rumors this close to any presumed launch. It's just seemingly too quiet- to devoid of the usual abundance of rumors ahead of new hardware releases.
Roll out M3 anything now, and everything else seems a generation behind... including the wonder-device to be launched in the first quarter of 2024. Would Apple jeopardize the buying psychology for the rest of the Macs to get out only an iMac with M3? Would Vpro with M2 seem "cutting edge" wow if it follows M3 iMac 2-5 months later?
However, upgrade iMac to M2 and the spin can be that "every Mac is up to date with our latest technology. Buy now for the holidays." To me, that seems MOST likely in October.
If you are Apple Inc- chasing every possible dollar- do you shoot yourself in the foot with 1 or 2 M3 Macs or save them- even if completely ready now- until Q1 2024? Else, if M3 anything hits in October, Vpro will likely be upgraded to M3 too for launch. It's hard to sell a brand new thing's incredible technology innovations with (what would clearly be seen as) "dated tech" guts: "I'll wait for the M3 version."
It's easy to see a press release, harder to see a campus video showcase (but maybe- especially if M3 is unveiled) because Apple Inc would want to do anything it can to fuel even more revenue for the quarter. These ideas though seem to put some revenue for the rest of the Macs on hold "since M3 is now out, I don't want to buy a outdated Mac at these prices. So I'll wait for the M3 update."
Follow the logic and think about the money. I'm not very confident that a single Mac with M3 can wash the delayed purchases of all other Macs by those "in the know" realizing that M2 is officially a generation behind.
All that shared: I'll look as forward to new Macs and M3 as anyone else. Through a pure consumer lens, progress is goooooooood!
The coolest kid on the block only care that they have the latest and greatest. It would be nice if I had at least a year with my M2 Max 16" MBP as the coolest kid on the block...
Either way, this is the best computer I have ever owned(well, used... it is my work computer)
I don't miss my 2018 15" MBP at all, even if it was lighter and thinner. it was at a terrible cost... The fans were full blast all day long by the time I traded it for the M2.
Does Apple have an agreement with huge price discounts on unusable yields if they deliver the chip this year? That’s why I expect to see the base model M3 this year.My guess is that M3 Macs were supposed to come this Autumn (likely MBA, 13" MBP and iMac). It's possible that with TSMC's yield issues on the first gen 3 nm line, all the capacity had to be directed to the A17 Pro and the M3 launch got pushed back to 2024 when the 2nd gen 3 nm line is churning out the chips. If that is the case, Apple may have decided to push a previously unplanned M2 iMac out of the door (and then delay an M3 iMac until the 3 nm supply has stabilised). As pointed out, there is no reason that an M2 iMac couldn't have launched alongside the M2 Mac Mini earlier this year.
It would be the base level M3 and they need sales to get to volume for the pro and ultra chips release.
I need an M3 iMac, dammit (trade-in for 27” 2019 model in progress…)!I want an M3 iMac, dammit!
The reviews I’ve seen from people say you quickly get use to a smaller screen… I’m you g to go for 24 if they don’t do the 27..I need an M3 iMac, dammit (trade-in for 27” 2019 model in progress…)!
I’m hoping the performance is going to compensate somewhat for the reduced display size, but it would be awesome if Apple introduced the new model in two sizes…
Why? Wasn't it refreshed 4 months ago?Mac Pro is the only Mac that really needs M3. A new MP is the Mac I want to see.
If any Mac launches this fall, that's what I would guess....anything that's not yet on M2.M2 iMac? (Not M3.)
