I don't see why they wouldn't do this. I bought the last gen blackbook(upgraded to 2gb of memory, iworks) and got it on the 25th of Feb. The update came out like a day or two after I got it. I called apple up.. it took talking to a few people.. But they waived the restocking fee for me. Paid for shipping the blackbook back too. Its going to save me about 200 bucks. No going to get iworks this time.

hi.i was in the exact same situation, i bought my 2.2ghz white macbook on february 18th, on i then found out about the update, and went to the apple store on march 1st (withing 14 days) and did a direct exchange and also got back 113$ for exact same model

old one: 2.2 ghz, 120gb hdd, 1gb ram

new one: 2.4ghz, 160gb hdd, 2 gb ram

they also waived the restocking fee

what number did you call?

If you can grow up a bit then ask politely and they will exchange it for free like they did it for me on the 14th day (that's usually the last day when they don't charge you for exchanging it.)

well, thats one good person on this post. thank you!

Everyone's posts have been good, you're just being dense. You didn't go in and buy the latest and greatest, you went in and bought a 2.2 Macbook with 1 GB of RAM. You're being ridiculous. You can't return a car after you've bought it without taking a monetary hit, stop thinking you can do that with something that is updated on an even more regular basis.

Yes, as a matter of fact, you can return a car...

without taking a monetary hit; it's called the lemon car law, but here is not the appropriate forum to explain it to its fullest extent. Please use another analogy. ;)

I believe he's making you look dumb, not us; your MacBook is not defective.

This car analogy is poor b/c you don't buy a car not knowing when the next model is coming out, or at least I don't anyway. And if you're going to buy a particular model, the salesman is usually all too happy to let you know when the new ones will be out. Then you have your choice of this years or last years model. This is not the case with Apple. I also bought the 120 gig version 4 days before the upgrade, and I would have been happy to have a small amount of money credited back. As it was, my store offered to waive the r.s. fee without my even asking, so the switch out was a no brainer. But I would have been happy with the machine I had at a slight discount. I wonder why Apple does not offer the just replaced models at a slight discount? Seems to me that it would be a great way to increase their market share.

I think I just found another "candidate" for my newfound feature "IGNORE LIST" 'cause he keeps putting words into other people's mouths! Bye "badandy":p

Well, I didn't scour my brain for an hour to find the most perfect analogy in this situation, but small differences aside, I think the main point still holds. Just because a new model comes out (whether or not it was anticipated) does not mean you are entitled to a free upgrade.

I think I am am entitles bad. I think I do deserve. step aside and let me look like the idiot you think that I will turn out to be while I get what is coming to me.. I am 17, waited awhile for this money. kept my hustle, not a job, to get it to come thru, and then they update. I think I am cheated. apple is not out to get me but you wasted ass is!

back down. I am just a kid!

Dude...being a kid doesn't give you the right to start throwing fits or bad mouthing people who are replying to YOUR question..seriously you seem like a very unsympathetic person from your posts but that's not my problem.

Life doesn't work the way you want it to, throwing fits, or bad mouthing people who don't tell you what you want to hear is something you better get over asap.

Kids --> grow up ;) (start with it).

I am totally growing up. the fit things something I read fro other posts of people.. older. intelligent people. trying to show a little anger will show your seriousness toward the situation. honestly, I just want more money. that is all I ever want, more money. I dont mind just getting the money difference like I said. I am cooling off slowly though.

what ever.

What?

I think I do deserve. step aside and let me look like the idiot you think that I will turn out to be while I get what is coming to me..

You deserve what? You deserve exactly what you paid for. You paid over a thousand dollars to get an unused macbook with specifications that you knew you were paying for. You got it, and it's a great computer. In fact, it's the one I have, and it's really a great laptop, so just enjoy it.

Well start acting like it. Whining gets you nowhere.

I think I am cheated

Well you weren't (cheated). You would be cheated if you paid for a black macbook but there was an iBook in the box instead.

I am just a kid!

No you aren't. You're 17.

EDIT: By the way. Before I'm criticized of being mean and insensitive, I definitely do feel for the OP. It sucks to buy something and have it updated shortly after. I realize that, and it's definitely no fun. My position in this thread, however, is just saying that you are not entitled to an upgrade once a new one comes out.
