The current white MacBook is on sale at Microcenter for $799

Much cheaper than the $949 student discount.

MacBook 13.3" MC516LL/A Laptop Computer

* Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor 2.4GHz
* 2GB DDR3-1066 SDRAM
* 250GB 5,400RPM Hard Drive
* 13.3" Widescreen Display
* SuperDrive Double Layer 8x DVD±RW Drive
* NVIDIA GeForce 320M
* 10/100/1000 Network
* AirPort Extreme 802.11n Wireless Network
* Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR
* Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard

This might mean there will be updates next week but I'm not sure what they would update the MacBook specs to... unless they also update the MacBook Pro..or they make the new low end a MacBook/MacBook Air Combo

I think you should wait. I think they have those deals pretty much all year, so I doubt it will change in 5 days, hopefully.

I wish I had a microcenter near by. $800 for macbook new? steal..

$799 is what the price of the white MacBook should be :p

If Apple sold such at that price, they would fly out of the stores.

I am hoping for all new lower prices across the board Oct 20th.

MacBook Pro should start at $999. :D

Buying tips

I put it in the buying tips forum to help others. I am not looking for one myself.

I've been observing microcenter habits for years... They usually only offer that deal in April before their fiscal year is done so it is odd that they do it now. Their price for low end MBP 13" has been $999 for many months and is the same now.

Who wants white plastic and less features for the same $999. Makes sense to drop the price but from knowledge, they are either playing with their financial balance sheets or the expect a new product in the same price range

At Microcenter, the $200 off the mbp is back. $999 is a sweet deal. Let's see what Apple's announcements will be...

I switched to Mac earlier this year with a iMac but I needed portability. I learned of the $799 MB deal at Microcenter from this site and bought one. Fantastic deal and my NJ MC only charges 3% tax because of the area they are in (rest of NJ is 7%). I loved it but really wanted those backlit keys and preferred, but could live without firewire. Anyway, when MC offered the 2010 MBP for only $999 I had an itch that needed scratching. After a month or two I feared this deal may disappear so I sold my MB on eBay and bought the base 13" MBP for $999 and couldn't be happier.

What about the new glass screen. Wasn't the non glass only glossy screen on the MB better?

Also, did the MB stay cooler to the touch especially underneath, than your new MBP?

Thanks

Both had identical screens - it was a late 2009 MB, the model before that was very different and not as good

Neither gets particularly hot at all, I would call it conformably warm. But, then again I do not run things like videos or edit movies. Just web surfing, page documents, and Photoshop - which only gets the CPU revved up for a few seconds at a time. It was with me recently on a two week trip and I loaded about 3,000 images and worked with some here and there. In theory the AL will conduct heat while plastic insulates so the MBP would do a better job at heat dissipation for casual use but might feel hotter when used intensively. Hope that helps

Microcenter has great deals. I got my $999 MBP 13" there and I'm loving it. that said, 799 for the whitebook is a great deal!
