I am sad about the low resolution and poor viewing angles on my 11" Air, however I cannot say that it looks washed-out.

But I set a custom colour profile and found it looks way better than the default one. If you buy a MacBook Air I suggest doing the same.

Most people aren't aware the MBA screen usually does not come calibrated from the factory like the MBPR does. And thus once you download the custom color profile it literally makes it night and day. It did for my 2015 MBA 13".

Can you post a link to the custom color profile you used?

Sorry, I have no intention of sharing it. It could make the screen look worse on your computer, because each screen has its own profile.

Why don't you just go to System Preferences and make your own?

For optimal results I recommend making two, one for good lighting conditions (low ambient light, no direct light on screen) and one for strong lighting.

I believe he was talking to me. And you won't share? You sound like a little kid who got beat up at the bus stop and won't share his toy lol. I guarantee none of your calibrations are as good as this one. Give it a shot, compare yours. I challenge thy...#

Give this a shot man. It's worked wonders on all my MBA's. http://theultralinx.com/2013/03/macbook-air-hack-screen/

Thanks. :)

The contrast and the colors are much better with the custom profile. The only thing is some darker colors become too dark because of the higher contrast.

the macbook air lineup will end, apple didn't even include the new trackpad, this will be the last macbook

I agree. I think the skylake upgrade to the rMB will bring huge performance improvements, and I am sure they will add another USB C port at the very least.

I was skeptical but I tried the color calibration that Vanimal posted and --

it definitely is an improvement. It makes black text pop more.

A very nice tweak. Thanks!

I thought so, it may crush some blacks on pictures more than usual. But i find the trade off is worth it, colors pop a lot more.

Not sure if it "crushes blacks" on photos but to me I'll sacrifice a little bit of photo quality to get a clean read on text (especially on the 11")

It's interesting, not sure why it seems this way but somehow black text seems a bit thicker with the new color profile. Don't know if I'm imagining that but something definitely makes it pop a little more.

So thanks again. Very pleased with this tip.

Yeah, thanks for the profile, vanimal.

I also find some dark colors too dark but I guess the higher contrast has something to do with it. Even with the darker darks, it's better than the built-in profile.

No problem, i will browse around for other profiles, if i find any legit ones ill share. I tried calibrating myself a few times with the built in one, and couldn't get it right. Either too cool, or too warm  It was driving me insane until i found this color profile.

MBA: much faster, more ports, easier to hold ( no side to side keyboard), much cheaper.

The only downsides are slightly smaller screen and no retina.

I picked mine up yesterday at the Apple Store. Certainly not washed out. I couldn't be happier. Sooooo fast. To me, the screen is fine so far. The color is Okay too, but will try the new profile just to see.

I seriously think my calibration is good for my machine, and not suited to most MBAs out there.

Well, here we go... I guess this ICC profile was made to suit many machines.

But my display is LTH, not LP so I don't think it will work.

As much as everyone claims that the non-retina display on the MBA is its downfall (and as true as that may be to people on this forum), the average user doesn't really care about that, especially when it comes to price. The MBA will continue being as popular as it is, because it will always be the cheaper option, because it will always be cheaper than the MBr and MBPr.

I think that Apple has recognized that the MBA is definitely one of it's signatures, and I doubt it will actually go anywhere, because it's been so successful. I mean, it has barely changed in five years, and when they update it, they don't even see any reason to publicize it during their Conferences anymore, because they know people will still buy it. I can attest to this, because I've owned four of them, my wife has owned two of them, and both of my kids have one as well. It's hands-down the best laptop I've ever owned, and I will continue to purchase them as long as Apple keep making them.

Hell I picked up a 2015 13" MBA from BB last week for $719. It was on sale $199 off and had a movers coupon. Saved me $600 roughly deciding not to get the MBR. That's some serious change and a more powerful machine. I don't travel and if I need a " high res" display. I'll plug it into my external monitor ;)

I tried to do the the calibrated profile steps listed but I dont see the option in the display colors

It's called Color LCD and you should see it under the Color tab.

Point proven ;)

thanks. After looking at it though I prefer the Generic RGB profile

HOLY CRAP! The Generic RGB at least in my settings in the 2015 MBA is VERY VERY BLUE! I prefer a more "cool" screen as well but man on mine its very blue tint wise. Maybe mine is off?

The tabs on this forum are supposed to be light gray correct? It makes them look VERY blue.

Indeed, the non-retina MacBook Pro has been on life support for the last... 3 years? You can still buy a new one no problem.

No reason for Apple to kill off the MBA in the next year or even few months, as people have speculated.

If they stop making a big deal about the MBA then even the inconsistent naming won't be a big deal.

When they introduced the Macbook in the keynote, my first impulse was to replace my 11" MBA with it. After I saw that it has no ports that are usable for anything without a dongle, I decided to keep my MBA. :p Maybe next year. I'm pretty sure they will add another port in the next iteration just like they did with the first MBA. The display is very nice (checked it out in the store), but I never had any issues with the MBA's. The new keyboard sucks, IMO.

Come on, I'm 67, and can't wait to LEARN, the new Keyboard, these days, everything is in a Cloud, who needs ports, need more there are the MBA's,MBP, buy them! We heard this same diatribe, when :apple: Sent the Floppy away, the CD Rom away,FireWire, etc.
Now, this brilliant piece of work arrives, and because it's "different" in Keyboard,in CPU, in ports, people here just can't handle it, see it for what it is, the future, of the whole line up, it's the minimalist view, using external sources for everything else. I'm buying the MBr with the 1.3 processor, and 512 SSD, and I will run my business with it, attend to my personal life,(email, photos, texts), and finish my Cookbook with it.
Point is, IMHO, people buy far more than they perceive they really need, this light feather of a Laptop, will be just what 70% of us REALLY need, for the other 30% there is the rest of the line up.(Please don't beat me up on the %'s)
Most of you are more computer savvy than I will ever be, you'll learn the keyboard, in a heartbeat, this IS the future, it's here now, EMBRACE it, cus everyone else will follow.."You do realize this Keyboard is already in the 13" MBP, and soon to be in the 15" MBP"?
Enjoy the fact that :apple: Leads the computer cutting edge business, jump in to,this, the future, or move to other Apple products, or MS Surface, or what ever floats your boat, but realize this is nothing more than the death of the CD Rom, floppy drive, etc, done in one STUNNING package
Rant over!
I also think, this will be a complete fantastic success, with Millions sold, lucky us.! lucky Apple, for nailing it again, not for everybody, but enough for many!

Hey, sorry to bug you again but how do I get this to work? When I get to this step:

"Go to the desktop screen and hit Command+Shift+G"

Nothing happens! What am I doing wrong here?
