Anyone tried gaming with external monitor like u3011 or u3014 or apple thunderbolt display?

MUCH cooler. It gets warm, not hot. Even after a hour of playing.

Cool thanks! Looks like i'm ditching my 2012 MBA for the new one. Also, my MBA only has a paltry 64gb SSD since it was my 1st mac ever. So i'll upgrading to the 11" MBA 2013 with 128gb ssd

Hello. Would you guys kindly test out the benchmark for FFXIV for me if you guys are running bootcamp. A little test on Parallel would be fine as well, whichever is convenient. Thanks

A few different setting tests would be greatly appreciated.

Seconding this. Preferrably with both i5 and i7 systems, since I am unsure which to buy and would like to see how much of an increase the i7 would give.

Thanks.

Fellow FF player. Hopefully there will be good souls out there helping us.

The HD4000 MBA ran XIV Beta without a problem on low settings. I bumped it to med for testing, but running around Gren when Beta 2 first started was a bit taxing with 1000 people standing around the aether...

I have no doubt the HD5000 can run it fine, but not on high. Especially on certain leves...

Would like to see a benchmark score on 720p, though.

Team Fortress 2 on OS X (13"/i7/8GB):

1440x900
Model: High
Texture: Very High
Shader: Low
Shadow: Low
No AA

Runs constantly over 60 FPS (65-100).

Guys, what do you think about LoL ? I'll buy the new mba. I'm just wondering if I can play LoL on mba with high settings  . Is there anyone who tried it?

Installed LoL last night.. it runs kinda MEH honestly.. Base model. Even with everything on lowest setting it just doesn't look or feel fluid.. It's playable though just kind of clunky feel. Honestly no different from the 2012 model with Intel 4000 from what I can tell.

wouldnt Dota 2 be worse then?

I would expect it to be or about the same.. I have another gaming laptop with 680m and everything runs perfect on ultra settings (aside from a few big titles) so i'm not sure what game is more demanding.

I know that WoW runs really nice, almost perfect enough on the new Airs. Although I found it to run really well on the 2012 Airs as well.

havent been playing WoW, but i'd assume WoW being more graphic intensive.. No one has tried playing Dota 2 on the new air, on 900p or 1080p for us to know yet. :(

I own Dota2.. Do they have a Mac version in Steam? If not, I can't really do Bootcamp for you because I only have a 128gb version of the MBA and I really need all the space I can get.

Video of Crysis being played (not sure how useful it is as they dont' discuss specs or framerate):

Seems like gaming runs better under boot camp (Windows) than it does in OSX.. Everything seems pretty choppy for me so far inside OSX (im also on battery).. Wonder if the MBA has more performance when plugged in.

Oh if your benchmarks were in OSX, OSX has massive overheads- bootcamp will give you much better performance.

nah mate, Dota 2 isnt available on iOS just yet.

It wasn't a benchmark but I was just running League of Legends (Mac version).. Ran like crap :/

Yeah well benchmarking with your eyes then ;) It will run better in windows, and maybe better in OSX when they update the drivers.

Thanks. I mainly want to know if there's a noticable difference between the i5 and i7, enough to warrant an upgrade.

Another video showing a few games (I believe Black Ops, Bioshock 2, some racing game, and Starcraft 2) on a base-model 13":

I have a macbook pro and I can't believe you cats are buying these and expecting to play games on them.

Uhh, I don't think people are just expecting to play games on them, but they ARE playing games on them. Quite respectably in many cases, too. ;)

I bought a MBA for it's portability as I currently do not have a Laptop and sometimes I find myself needing/wanting more than an iPad. The fact that gaming is even an option on this machine is just a bonus and this thread has proven that.

Not expecting or buying them for gaming.. it's a nice added bonus that they CAN do it if at least on the lowest settings and still have respectable framerates.. We should all be saying "thanks Intel" for stepping up the integrated GPU game.

The HD5000 is capable of much better than the lowest settings, at least for current games. Glad Intel is stepping up their IGP.
