do you guys play with your air plugged in? I just got my first air today and played SC2 and my computer is at 15% battery after 3.5 hours. Ive never had a mac so Im not sure what Im supposed to do.. I think I installed like 30% of the game and then started playing it. I played on Low or Medium, dont remember.

Mine drained after 3 hours of Civ 5. Thats not bad.

Yep. That's just me though. I don't like playing intense games while charging cause it's like, charging and draining at the same time.. Maybe laptops these days can handle it fine but I just don't like doing that to my main machine. To each his own.

It's a Macbook air, the CPU has a TDP of 15W. The laptop as a whole doesn't use more than 30Ws of power at full load. It comes with a 45W power brick. There is no way you are going to drain your laptop faster then it can charge.

Your "process" is silly and unnecessary.

TDP is not power draw. It is possible to consume more wattage than is listed as your TDP. Not all of it will be converted to heat. It is also not the first time Apple's notebooks have drained their batteries when at full load.

I'm lazy. For reference I'd like to know if the new 13" $1299 MacBookAir could handle a game like World of Tanks using Windows 7 or 8? I don't think the MBA meets the minimum graphic requirements or does it? Any ideas anyone?

Thanks! :)

MBA Specs:
1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor
Turbo Boost up to 2.6GHz
Intel HD Graphics 5000
4GB memory
256GB flash storage1

Here are the minimum WoT System Requirements:

Operation system: Windows XP/Vista/7/8
CPU: 2.2GHz
RAM: 1.5 GB for Windows XP, 2 GB for Windows Vista/7/8
GPU: GeForce 6800GT with 256 MB of video memory / ATI X800 with 256 MB of video memory, DirectX 9.0c
Audio adapter: compatible with DirectX9.0c
Space available on HDD: 9 GB
Internet connection speed: 256 Kbps

It'll handle, it's better than a 6800GT. Seriously. Unless it doesn't support Intel HD Cards, then it's game over for you.

I tried WoT on my wife's circa 2009 dual core 2.2 ghz macbook with gma 3100. Now that was sad. The game ran snail like, and it would not draw textures properly. Just wondering how much progress has been made in 4 years?

Thanks!

Yes I know what TDP is, but like I said, the laptop doesn't use more than 30Ws.

Hey does anyone know if empire total war gold edition will run on the new 2013 13" air with an i7 8 gob ram and the 128ssd?

I read somewhere in this thread that Shogun 2 was playable, going with that Empire should be as well. If you want more specifics do a search, not sure if he did a FPS average or not.

GW2 mac beta run fine in 1440x900 in low/mid setup (between 20 and 30 fps).

but, hot temperature and big noise fan

mba haswell 13" i7, 8go, 256go

it's dangerous for mba this "hotting" ?

Has anyone played Civ V?

On the App Store it says it requires like a 2.4Ghz processor and I was like, awk... i5... 1.3...

Those numbers are really no longer applicable, and you don't need to worry about processor speed in this day and age in relation to games.

However, GPU is your concern in gaming.

I have. For hours on end. :D

It works fine. There is a bit of lag refreshing the screen, and it sucks the battery down in 3 hours. But it is definitely playable. I used the default graphics settings, but I am guessing the CPU is bottlenecking this game a bit, especially in the later stages.

How well does civ 5 run?

I don't have a good frame of reference to definitely say good or bad. I was able to play it, the screen refreshed fine (although slowly at times), I had a total of 12 civilizations and 24 city states, and I had to wait for 5-10 seconds for their turns to process, but overall I would say I enjoyed playing on my MBA and will continue to do so.

Now, if I played on a MacBook Pro I may have a different take on it...
