i played borderlands 2 on 800x 600 everything low...game is very smooth and fun to play

fan still comes on loud though

You can bump it up further and still keep it above 30fps. I run it at native and some things on medium and it's 25-30 all the time.

Ditto. There's a few things, like shadows and depth of field that you need to keep an eye on, but I also have it at 1440x900 and it runs agreeably well, in Mavericks.

I've finally cracked and installed Windows 7/bootcamp on a 32 Go partition (tried with 20, which is not enough). My windows-only Steam games collection is on a 1 TB external USB 3.0 HDD. I'm playing Black Ops 2 right now and the only slight downside is that level loading times can take up to a minute, but after that, no problems whatsoever. Beside that, I still run OS X compatible games under Mavericks.

Anyone running Godus on a Mid 11 1.7 i5 Air? Last time I bought a game before checking around the game turned out not to run well, even though it met the reqs.

I see most people post here about 8GB mba, how about 4GB i5? Since integrated graphics uses main RAM isn't it too much of a problem? I generally have PS3 for games, and plan to buy PS4/Xone in some time, so MBA wouldn't be my gaming machine, however, there is one thing I'm currently playing on my PC and it's Diablo 3. Anyone tried it on 4GB i5? I don't mind about details, can be lowest, just want it to run smoothly, or at least to keep it above 20fps, even with lots of monsters, and lots of spells on screen.

I'm curious about this too.

Minimum:
OS: Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7 SP1
Processor: Intel Dual-Core 2.4 GHz or AMD Dual-Core Athlon 2.5 GHz
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 8800GT or AMD Radeon HD 3830 or Intel HD Graphics 4000 with 512 MB VRAM
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard Drive: 10 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX®-compatible

Recommended:
OS: Windows 7 SP1
Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 or AMD Phenom II X4 940 or better
Memory: 4 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 or AMD Radeon HD 7750 with 1 GB VRAM or better
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard Drive: 14 GB available space
Sound Card: DirectX®-compatible

This is from the STEAM website and offcourse for windows machines, but maybe you can see something from it.
As I see it, you can play it on low settings, but not for sure.

When I fill in the specs of the Macbook Air i7/8gb on game-debate, the figure says that the processor and ram is enough, but the GPU doesn't reach the minimum specs. (but its on 1280x1024)

But as Dayz says the minimum spec is a Intel hd 4000, you should can play it, but dont ask me anything about FPS.

You can see it for €24!

I have been playing it on my laptop that I have now.

It has worse cpu and ram then the i7/8 MBA, but a better GPU (Nvidia GTX460M)

With low settings, I get 25 fps. So I think it will be very hard for the MBA to handle it. the MBA isn't a gaming machine.

EDIT:

Was something wrong, dont know why, but I get now steady 30-35 at medium settings (objects and terrain on high, shadows low, AA low) at open field.

Sometimes I have FPS drop to 10-15, for several minutes(maybe because of the alpha phase, but I think heating of the GPU)
As it is a medium gaming laptop (bought it in 2010) I think the heat will be a problem for MBA.

so why the hell did you even post?!
anyone can compare mba specs with dayz reqs... -.-

//
i've tried cracked dayz sa v.0.28 and it's definately playable on low-normal/noAA/1440x900/win7-bootcamped.
but still hesitating with steam purchase... :/ (on low/normal settings the game is just ugly)

Was just info from my own laptop ;)

on normal the game looks OK. I agree that you should not buy it when you computer only can play it on low, looks terrible.

If I was you, just try it for $30. Or wait for other people who tried it

How's Civilization 5 with i5/8/256?

Fine with just ok graphics as long as MBA fan doesn't star spinning immediately.

dayz standalone

i play dayz st on my macbook air 2013 with i5 and 4gb. it runs a bit laggy in full resolution. when playing in 800+600 and a bit of setting tweaking it runs smoth and looks good.

bf4 runs good only in the first 15 minutes, than the processor begin throttling and fps broken down.

i7/8gb and in 1440x900 runs pretty smooth (no AA, video settings: normal/disiabled). :) but still waiting for some optimization.

Throttlestop etc

Thanks for the tip, but i tried tp and other tricks before, and failed. Maybe i done it wrong, im not a pro. I'am stuck now with bf bad company 2 and can only hope for better air skills in the future.

throttling

omg, even bad company 2 begins throttling after a while! this game is years old, and my i5 brandnew. i gave throttlestop a second change, but failed twice. it's sad. no need for hd5000 with cpu throttling on fast online games! does anybody has a solution?

Skyrim gaming performance

I recently figured out how to run windows through and external hard drive, which I am really excited about because it allows me to play all the games I want without taking up any MBA space!! This said, I got Skyrim and it works flawlessly! My brother has a Lenovo Y500, and it works better than it does on mine than his.

The video looks really nice on the 13" screen! from time to time when I do some console commands, the game will pause if what I am doing is very intense! Overall, it works extremely well especially since I am doing this through a VM and an external Hard drive!

How do u run windows from external ?? Can you pm me how to do this ?

throttling

ok, was my fault, battlefield bad company 2 runs fine now, i ve blocked the cooling openings with my blanket. also i found a solution against throttling, i try frozen refrigerator pads - works great. maybe i give bf3 and 4 a second chance.

Just been playing COD: Modern Warfare 2 on my late 2013 11'' MacBook Air (stock with 8gb).

Running Windows 8 Pro, just bootcamp drivers, nothing else. Ran perfectly at native res, didn't touch other settings.

Got hot and the fan was going hard, but that's what the fan is there for. With headphones in it wouldn't be an issue. Well impressed.

Did anyone own the 2010 MBA prior to the 2013?

Is the Intel 5000 any better in comparison? The old dedicated 320M absolutely burns the 4000 chip in real gaming scenarios, complex scenes went from relatively smooth on the 320M to unplayable on the 4000 ('12 MBA). I think the '11 MBA would be as solid downgrade from the '10. The benchmark results are a bit deceiving I found, either that or I looked at the numbers too casually and assumed they told the whole story.

I wouldn't want to get a 2013 and discover it's still not decently better than the 320M. Anyone who has / had both that can comment? Wish they stuck with the dedicated chips, would make the current model way more enticing.
