Hey OP, I don't know if you've seen the color in person, if not, I recommend you to do so. Why? Because it changes in person. I was going to get a gold MacBook Air, because it looked gorgeous. It is a new shade of gold color, and it looked more close to beige on the web. But when I saw it on the stand, on the stores, I still liked it, but not as much. Why? Because it is not rose gold, but it has a rose shade. It depends on how the light falls on the surface, it acquires a shade or another, so overall it is a nice color, but it is not the beige/latte/dessert color I was expecting.
But, that said, if you see it in person and you like that gold, with a rose shade, and sometimes with a darker shade, then if you actually like that color, who cares what people think? I was about to buying it, I didn't care about what a man is supposed to buy (a space grey top specced MacBook Pro? ********). So, if you like that color, go ahead.
And finally, what color did I chose? Well, back in the day, I was all about darker colours, black phones, and my iPhone is Space Gray, like my iPad. But you know what? My old MacBook Pro is silver and I like it. And when I was on the store, I was hesitating between space grey and silver... And Honestly, I was about to get the space grey one because that was the color I was expected to get (because all my Apple products were space grey) but then I realised I actually like silver color better on a Mac. Also, two things: First, space grey on MacBook Air seems clearer than other space grey Apple products, less dark, and ultimately it seems a darker silver color. And secondly, Silver is more resilient to scratches than any other color, because it is the same color underneath the surface of the aluminum.
