I'm officially disappointed. The 15' got raised €300 in price.

And I'm guessing that means no more dedicated graphics in the next update.

Apple has lost it. This is Madness!

It got raised here in Australia from $2700AUD with education pricing to $3250! Not a single different spec from yesterday's listing. I knew I should have bought it last week!

€2800

Can you ****ing believe that ****?

Here's the madness:

NOTHING ABOUT IT CHANGED!

NOTHING ABOUT IT CHANGED!

I know! I called Apple and the guy was totally clueless saying it was all updated and had new hardware and that I should pay attention to the news because new MacBooks were announced.

Freaking idiot was being rude about stuff he didn't even know about. Literally the same specs from yesterday are the ones today, but why on earth do they think a price bump of $500 is necessary? I want my NVIDIA card goddammit

For those of you saying "what about the 15?" "No update for the 15! <angry face>" its not a MacBook PRO, its just a MacBook... Am i the only one seeing this?!

So instead of just finally adding that freakin' IPS (not even retina resolution) to otherwise perfect MBAs they introduce that silly ugly underpowered piece of crap? Apple, you're killing me, literally.. :(

Blame Draghi and Greece. It's exchange rates.

The currency of the EUR went down in value but it's already back up.

Also, it has nothing to do with currency or the EU since the price also went up in Australia.

You might wanna keep politics out of this.

My guess is that they needed to differentiate price with the highest end 13' model.

Which now is priced at €1999 which was the price for the 15' base model.

Nothing to do with politics, everything to do with profit

well I for one am jumping the gun and upgrading my late 2011 15inch to the latest one. but my MBP is struggling and I figure with the $300 off from educational discount, I might be able to almost break even if the new chips get released in the fall and eBay is kind to me.

so to the guy who posted his three options, if you can get the discount go for #3, I am. :) but man, I was so excited. ah well, first world problems.

No, it's down 22% compared to a year ago.

Yes it does.

The AUD is down 15% compared to a year ago.

Your guess is wrong. It also has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with currency conversion.

Why don't you wait until later this year when the 15" rMBP is refreshed?

Aint that a b...

Well, thanks for the update.

Who gives a damn about broadwell anyway.

Anytime Apple upgrades products but doesn't show graphs with the improvement in processing power you know it's ****.

Guess the wait for Skylake has officially begun.

How much faster will the new processors be in the MBA?
Compared to what and which part of the processor. In a nut shell you may see a little increase in CPU performance but a much larger improvement to the GPU.
Currently deciding between the MBA and the 13" MBP. I'm gonna be using this for dental school, so portability is definitely a priority however, I like the option of the processing power in the MBP.
In the end trying out the different models in a store might make sense. Obviously a 15" MBP is a performance machine, however Broadwell certianly allows Apple to deliver a very balanced MBA. From my perspective the GPUs in the recent MBA and especially this rendition makes for a compelling argument.
Uses: Web browsing with a lot of tabs open while word processing, and some dental programs that are probably similar to the demand photoshop would have.
A MBA can certianly handle that, especially if you upgrade RAM. The 13" MBP might be more inviting though. The 13" MBP is a very good shim between the Airs and the 15" MBP.
Or would it be wiser to wait for a full-on refresh of the MBP?

What and when would that come? The 15" hardly meets your portability criteria so waiting for that doesn't make sense. The 15" is most likely waiting for SkyLake and I kinda doubt Apple will update the hardware released today in 4-5 months. Not that that hasn't happened before.

There are no politics here whatsoever, but there are plenty of national and international monetary policy and economics.

Still, this means the top-of-the-line MacBook Pro doesn't have Force Touch, but the smaller one does.

So? I'm expecting a rather huge upgrade to the 15" MBP when it comes. SkyLake could turn the machine into a performance monster.

It's kind of weird that the 13' rMBP gets a little bump in the battery life department (1 hour), but then, the MacBook Air didn't see any improvements with the Broadwell chips, a least 1 hour too? What do you guys think?

That thing better have Skylake! If they opt for Broadwell...

I can't seem to find any definitive info on whether there will be a Broadwell-H (the variant relevant for the 15-incher) at all, which would mean Apple would have to move straight to Skylake.

I can bet my bottom dollar that we'll see the 14" mate of today's 12" rMBA with Skylake (and of course the retina screen...). The 11" & 13" MBAs (with non-retina screens and very current Broadwell) will die by 2016.

I really don't see these MacBooks having a significant impact on Air sales. It really is a low end machine that Apple is selling at a ridiculous price point. The performance will be terrible for anybody after a productivity machine and the lack of ports is a serious crimp for a wide array of users. I've yet to find any information on the charger but the machine would certianly be a bit nicer if the charger had some sort of breakout / hub functionality.

I'm just pretty much convinced right now that this machine running at 1.1 GHZ will please fevers few. I would not be surprised at all to find out that IPad Air 2 out performs it in CPU tasks. OK maybe a stretch as the chip does have turbo mode. However this is a passively cooled machine and as such turbo will not be continuous.

Of course real hardware in the hands of users and testers will give us a better idea of what the box is capable of. The problem is this same chip has already been used in other platforms and has fallen flat on it's face.

Will be related to the Euro taking a plummeting against all other currencies, sponsored by Greece.

The Euro has more problems than Greece! I don't see anything good happening for the Euro for decades or maybe longer. Liberalism is the death of capital.

Last time I checked the whole west is effed.

US deficits, EU deficits, Russia sanctions. Seems like the places to be right now are Asia, Africa and Latin America.

My 2011 15" MBP will live another day.
My 2008 died recently and last Friday took it to the store to confirm. Most likely is a main logic board failure so this release is most interesting to me.
From my mouth to Cook's ears, please oh please give me a retina matte screen on a 15" MBP. :)

Matte screen will never happen. It smears the high resolution display making it a bit of a joke. Given that the new screens are significantly better at handling free lectins.
