For those needs you could probably go iPad with a bluetooth keyboard case, basically creating a laptop-like tablet. Those can do those 4 things just fine... and double as a tablet too. iPads are lighter than MBair.
I actually do already have an iPad mini + keyboard. And it does indeed do those things fine. But I'm a pretty technically minded user. (I like to find terminal hacks to mod my macbook for example). There is almost zero ability to troubleshoot an iPad when things go wrong (like for example you are trying to do something on a website and experience an error). Like 10% of the time I would still need access to some type of full desktop OS. I've already run into issues of trying to set up custom icon backgrounds on my phone that I couldn't resolve without access to a full desktop OS. There is no way I would ever rely on just iPad OS without access to a computer with a fully open operating system and full control over the file system.

I'm not holding my breath, but I'd love to see the nano-texture come to the Air.
Same.

Last year, they have added the nano-texture option to the iPad Pro, MacBook Pro and iMac.

I have a feeling it will be coming to the MacBook Air.

It may come to the MacBook Air but I don't know if it's worth it... I fell like 512gb is better!

I have since edited my OP as it has ruffled some feathers.

To clarify: I often leverage the term stupid to reference things that are so beyond amazing that they can only labeled as such. In other words, I intended it as a term of endearment.

Thus, an M4 in an iPad is also stupid. Stupid good. 🤪

["Stupid good" is a slang term that describes something as being exceptionally good, even to the point of being unbelievable. The phrase uses the word "stupid" in a way that emphasizes how good something is, even though "stupid" usually has a negative connotation.]
For me (at least in the iPad) it is more painfully good - perfect machine crippled by iPadOS :)

I have a mbp 14 M1 at the moment thinking of replacing it with an air. What are the speakers like? I've heard they aren't as good. I need it only to listen to youtube videos and training videos for software / application development.

I would imagine good enough for that. Unless you're watching movies or listening to music on the speakers, it's probably fine.
