I'd well consider 200 - 250 bucks to add some 'oomph' to it and bring it back to better than factory and gain another 7 years.
You would have actually to consider $260 to $320 since that $200 to $250 was $USD and you're in Canada.

Just a little update on my 11" 2011 i5/2GB/128GB Air. I had it running High Sierra for a month or two, and it seemed noticeably more laggy than it had under El Cap. I downgraded it back to El Cap a few nights ago, and it is much snappier now. Perhaps High Sierra is just a tad too much for 2GB of RAM.
I made an el cap installer usb on another Mac, booted the Air off that, wiped the drive with disk utility, and restored from my last time machine backup that had el cap. Took about an hour and I was back up and runningGood to know. My 2011 13" base is pretty laggy on Sierra and I was considering going back to El Capitan. Do you have instructions on how to do that?
Have loaded High Sierra on 2 2011 Airs, with 4gb RAM, and they run fine.
High Sierra here as well, 4 GB RAM, no issues. Startup is a bit slow, but once running machine does what it's supposed to do.
Maybe I'll just say 'thanks, but no thanks', and keep running an 'old' OS on an 'old' computer until it finally just upchucks on its own. And look at all the notebook options.
Bad news courtesy of Apple this week - the next OS (10.14) will not run on the mid-2011 Air.
Not really a surprise there for me, but has me wondering which is more valuable - my 'obsolete' and incredibly convenient 11" that still runs as expected, or an OS that seems to have Dark Mode as the only real selling point for me.
Now, its possible that by October, I might consider getting a new Mac - but the bad news for Apple is that it would (given what we know so far about MacBooks, ports and keyboards) probably be a slightly more kitted-out 13" Air from last year, and likely bought from their own Refurb Store at a 15% discount. Or not. Maybe I'll just say 'thanks, but no thanks', and keep running an 'old' OS on an 'old' computer until it finally just upchucks on its own. And look at all the notebook options.
That’s what I think I’m gonna do too! Love my 2013 MacBook Air!^^Preach. My 2013 11" MBA isn't 'obsolete' just yet. But I'm not highly optimistic about what Apple will be offering when the time comes that I *need* (vs. want) to replace it. Or when I need to replace my rMBP which is my "main" computer and can handle my Lightroom/Photoshop work. I'm not thrilled with what I'm seeing right now, certainly not enough to pay the Apple tax for it.
Can't believe it myself: soon going into its 8th year, and still a trusted computer. Doing Photoshop stuff on it and mostly Web stuff, texts and editing... but power-using the machine each and every day for years now.
The MBA remains snappy and responsive. Software maintenance might play a big part; using CleanMyMac certainly has a good effect on the computer's overall health
Okay, the journey wasn't without issues. Am on the third battery and needed to replace the keyboard.
The beauty of the MBA? Repairs are easy - or easier compared to the latest MB machines with glued battery packs, difficult-to-repair keyboards, etc.
Sure I'm looking at successors - the Macbook is too tiny and the MBPs are nice, yet looking forward to what this soon-to-be-announced MBA 2018 could look like.
Might well ditch higher MBP specs for lower MBA specs.
Seems those are more than good enough for me!
My mid-2011, 11" MBA won't be supported in Mojave. My scanner and printer aren't getting 64-bit drivers. My electronics are joining me in obsolescence. Whatever.
It's been a good run. I don't print much, mostly envelopes. I'll be able to do that from the MBA. I expect I'll have to get a new scanner for the iMac when Apple drops support for 32-bit apps in the OS after Mojave. The iMac will get Mojave, even though I have no interest in dark mode, because that's what I do. I bought the MBA within a week of retiring. I'll adapt rather than go back to anything Windows.
Isn’t that what I saidi don t see a problem, it s a perfect balance : mac and peripherals
and no more bothering with updates. forever![]()
