You would have actually to consider $260 to $320 since that $200 to $250 was $USD and you're in Canada. :)

Ha, ha! True enough. Still, beats $CDN1499 for an upgrade to MBA 13" / 1.8 / 8 / 256 or, even more laughable, the significantly underwhelming base MacBook at $CDN1729 (the same price as the base MacBook Pro).

I have a 2008 20-inch iMac, and for my limited use of browsing, email, word processing and the odd game, it runs like new. Have used dosdude's patch to upgrade it to High Sierra, with no problems at all

Mac mini mid-2010 upgraded to 16GB RAM, optical drive removed for an HDD tray, 128GB SSD boot/apps drive + 750GB HDD for data. Waiting to see what Apple will do with the MacBook Air, maybe I'll buy a 2017 MacBook Air if they do something stupid like replacing the Air with the MacBook.

Just a little update on my 11" 2011 i5/2GB/128GB Air. I had it running High Sierra for a month or two, and it seemed noticeably more laggy than it had under El Cap. I downgraded it back to El Cap a few nights ago, and it is much snappier now. Perhaps High Sierra is just a tad too much for 2GB of RAM.

Good to know. My 2011 13" base is pretty laggy on Sierra and I was considering going back to El Capitan. Do you have instructions on how to do that?

I made an el cap installer usb on another Mac, booted the Air off that, wiped the drive with disk utility, and restored from my last time machine backup that had el cap. Took about an hour and I was back up and running :)

High Sierra here as well, 4 GB RAM, no issues. Startup is a bit slow, but once running machine does what it's supposed to do.

What's a benefit of these MBAs is the ease of repairs.

The newer generation of MBPs with glued battery and fixed components make it difficult to have the computer serviced.

Really hope there'll be an MBA update soon, but might be that the lineup is dropped and we're left with MBP and MB...

Have loaded High Sierra on 2 2011 Airs, with 4gb RAM, and they run fine.

Seems like the biggest difference is that my Air has only 2GB in it. Given that I use my Air pretty much exclusively for school, lesson planning, and grading, it’ll do fine for me running El Cap for many years to come :)

I'm another happy owner of an 11" MBA (2013) with 4GB RAM.

Just for sh*ts and giggles I recently wiped the SSD and reinstalled the OS (High Sierra), figuring a general cleanup was probably a good idea after 4+ years in service. I think it's running a little snappier now, including startups. No problems at all.

I'd really like to have a new maxed-out 13" MBA, but that's not within my budget. So I'm hoping my faithful 11" MBA hangs in with me for another few years. It is a marvelous traveling companion. Not my main computer, but I can even use Lightroom and Photoshop on it although I don't try crazy Photoshop edits like stacking a zillion images together or the like. I save that insane stuff for the rMBP.

For the longest time I never even gave the 11" MBA a thought since I had my 2012 15" retina MBP and 13" MBP to use... then I decided that those two laptops were too bulky to travel thru airports all the time so I started looking at the MBA platform again. I managed to snag my fully spec'd 13" MBA at a decent price and once again realized just how nice it was having something that seemed feather light compared to my MBPs... so out of curiosity thanks to threads like these, I began to look at the 11" MBA. I managed to snag a 11" MBA for a killer price and now realize just now nice it is to use!

I really appreciate just how small and light this laptop is and when at home has been my "go to" laptop when I don't have the need to power up my MacPro desktop... for those of you who already own the 11" MBA I realize what I am saying you all already know... I'm new to the 11" platform and am here to say I really love this laptop :)

Bad news courtesy of Apple this week - the next OS (10.14) will not run on the mid-2011 Air.

Not really a surprise there for me, but has me wondering which is more valuable - my 'obsolete' and incredibly convenient 11" that still runs as expected, or an OS that seems to have Dark Mode as the only real selling point for me.

Now, its possible that by October, I might consider getting a new Mac - but the bad news for Apple is that it would (given what we know so far about MacBooks, ports and keyboards) probably be a slightly more kitted-out 13" Air from last year, and likely bought from their own Refurb Store at a 15% discount. Or not. Maybe I'll just say 'thanks, but no thanks', and keep running an 'old' OS on an 'old' computer until it finally just upchucks on its own. And look at all the notebook options.

^^Preach. My 2013 11" MBA isn't 'obsolete' just yet. But I'm not highly optimistic about what Apple will be offering when the time comes that I *need* (vs. want) to replace it. Or when I need to replace my rMBP which is my "main" computer and can handle my Lightroom/Photoshop work. I'm not thrilled with what I'm seeing right now, certainly not enough to pay the Apple tax for it.

That's a bit of a bummer. But only a bit. Same here, will keep the machine running, even though I absolutely need a dark mode, or not...

That’s what I think I’m gonna do too! Love my 2013 MacBook Air!

If/when my 2012 Air ceases to be supported, I'll continue to run it for a while then go back to an iMac, which you'd hope would be all-in on retina and SSD by then. None of the current crop of MacBooks inspires me. Death to dongles!

Can't believe it myself: soon going into its 8th year, and still a trusted computer. Doing Photoshop stuff on it and mostly Web stuff, texts and editing... but power-using the machine each and every day for years now.

The MBA remains snappy and responsive. Software maintenance might play a big part; using CleanMyMac certainly has a good effect on the computer's overall health

Okay, the journey wasn't without issues. Am on the third battery and needed to replace the keyboard.

The beauty of the MBA? Repairs are easy - or easier compared to the latest MB machines with glued battery packs, difficult-to-repair keyboards, etc.

Sure I'm looking at successors - the Macbook is too tiny and the MBPs are nice, yet looking forward to what this soon-to-be-announced MBA 2018 could look like.

Might well ditch higher MBP specs for lower MBA specs.

Seems those are more than good enough for me!

my 2011 MBA has the original battery with 1000cycles. still holds 3h

just as fas as the 1st day with High Sierra.

My macbook air is going to stay fast forever. Apple decided High Sierra is the final stop

My mid-2011, 11" MBA won't be supported in Mojave. My scanner and printer aren't getting 64-bit drivers. My electronics are joining me in obsolescence. Whatever.

It's been a good run. I don't print much, mostly envelopes. I'll be able to do that from the MBA. I expect I'll have to get a new scanner for the iMac when Apple drops support for 32-bit apps in the OS after Mojave. The iMac will get Mojave, even though I have no interest in dark mode, because that's what I do. I bought the MBA within a week of retiring. I'll adapt rather than go back to anything Windows.

i don t see a problem, it s a perfect balance : mac and peripherals

and no more bothering with updates. forever :)

Speaking of my 2011 MBA, I just did a clean install of High Sierra last night as I had not done a clean install since Yosemite. It is running like a dream, such an awesome computer. :D
