if you don t need high speed, you can buy a fast sd card and stick it in the port.
there are small custom shaped cards for mba

Have to be honest and admit it: totally tempted by the new MBP, yet since changing the keyboard and the third battery on the trusted MBA 2011 this old machine is still going smooth and strong.

Unbelievable. Got it back then with the i7 processor and 256 GB. Never imagined still typing on it going into the machine's 8th year...

So guess that MBP upgrade has to wait! Or let's see what Apple offers in autumn.

Macbook Air Mid 2011 i7 4GB 256GB here. I looked into replacing it, but decided not too.
Geekbench today: 2601 5293. It is completely sufficient as my travel computer. I am a scientist and use mostly TeX and Simple Sagemath on it, besides the usual stuff. Perfect for presentations. On its second battery. I found a lot of dust when replacing the battery.

I love this sort of topics about MacBook Air 2011 :) My only notebook since August 2011 is MacBook Air'13, i7, 256 GB. Two months ago I got a new job with the my own office and Windows desktop with a lousy keyboard. When I need to do a lot of typing fast, I bring my MacBook Air and my fingers just simply soar over its keyboard compared to desktop keyboard. I do hope that I will enjoy this beautiful MacBook Air until 2020 at least :)

Bad news courtesy of Apple this week - the next OS (10.14) will not run on the mid-2011 Air.

Not really a surprise there for me, but has me wondering which is more valuable - my 'obsolete' and incredibly convenient 11" that still runs as expected, or an OS that seems to have Dark Mode as the only real selling point for me.

Now, its possible that by October, I might consider getting a new Mac - but the bad news for Apple is that it would (given what we know so far about MacBooks, ports and keyboards) probably be a slightly more kitted-out 13" Air from last year, and likely bought from their own Refurb Store at a 15% discount. Or not. Maybe I'll just say 'thanks, but no thanks', and keep running an 'old' OS on an 'old' computer until it finally just upchucks on its own. And look at all the notebook options.
Dosdude1 has created a patcher. I am normally running High Sierra on my mid 2011 Air (enhanced with an OCD 1TB drive and updated WiFi/BLE card for full Continuity support.) Created an APFS container shared with the main boot and with some fiddling got it to work. The patched installer believed there was not enough space so I installed on an external drive and then cloned it back. Initializing now, so it is sluggish (Spotlight, Mail, Photos, etc. are all grinding.)

Speaking of my 2011 MBA, I just did a clean install of High Sierra last night as I had not done a clean install since Yosemite. It is running like a dream, such an awesome computer. :D
Yup! Same here. Mine is running smoothly. I didn’t used for few months recently but heavily used it during 2011 to 2016. It’s just works. Recently the charger dies and Apple store replaced it free even after 7 years. My battery is at 84% and entire Mac test passed. Support loaded High Sierra and updated to latest software updates. Resolution is pretty low compared to retina of course, but Air is working like a charm. Meanwhile mine is 2011 MacBook Air 1.8 GHz with 4 GB of RAM

What WIFi/BLT card are you using? Is it an AC card?

My 11' MacBook Air, which is a late 2010 (sorry to not stay on topic exactly) is still running High Sierra absolutely fine. I mean sure, compared to my 2018 and 2015 MacBook Pro's, it is a completely different user experience. However, if I am running out somewhere and want the convenience of carrying my MacBook Air vs. my MacBook Pro's around I can still get most any work done on my MBA that I can on my MBP's. It is just a slower experience.

The hardest thing for me is going from my Retina MBP's to a non-retina MBA screen.

My model has the 1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo along with the NVIDIA GeForce 320M GPU. The BIGGEST mistake I made was not upgrading the RAM from 2GB to 4GB, and I believe it was only $100 to upgrade the RAM. Very stupid mistake on my part.

Overall this is why we pay the "Apple Tax" because the machines last so damn long!

I mean imagine an eight year old PC (or nine year old since my MBA is about to be nine years old) and how incredibly horrible that experience would be!
