I don’t imagine Apple has taken leave of their senses. Brighter screens mean shorter battery life. If you need the extra 200 nits, buy the 2018 MBP. I’d have a hard time recommending the nTB 2017 version, given all the keyboard headaches.

Laptops with brighter screens already manage to have better battery life even with 15W chips.

I was hoping people would be reporting easily getting more than 10 hours with some over 12, when I read the specs. I wonder what it could be - I remember getting pretty great battery life with the nTB and as we all know of its CPU/screen.

Or put a decent screen on it and let ah, um, the user decide if they want battery life OR brightness... I don't need Apple deciding for me... They did and I returned it....

I just compared the old mba to the new one at my local Apple store. They are about the same brightness which is extremely disappointing. Also the colours are not a big step up either, imo the nTB MBP is a no brainer. The MBP screen is just on a whole other level and the weight difference is negligible.

Compared to the old airs the screen is much better. I don’t have a pro to compare it to but I like the screen. I also got it for $1000 from micro center, so I’m happy.

I just compared them in person and I have to disagree, its only the resolution that is really better on the 2018 MBA compared to the old one. The colours and brightness are almost on par.

Resolution makes everything look better. I felt like my eyes were getting strained with the old air due to the comparative low resolution screen.

It probably comes down to what you're use too, i'm the same with only ever using none retina so far, 2011 MacBook Pro and iMac 2012 are both none retina devices, when i go to the Apple store and see this new Air in person it will probably be a big difference to me. Someone who is use to seeing the Pro screen will probably not be impressed since this isn't the Macbook Pro screen with P3.

This is very true indeed. I’m on a late 2013 MacBook Air and have no complaints at all. Got the battery replaced in summer this year and it’s back to its 100% performance. I don’t really do much photo editing on the Mac and hardly ever do any video editing. Also hardly watch movies on it. The Mac is purely my workhorse.

I’m not sure if the new model is going to bring me anything better considering what I use my laptop for.

I just sold my 2016 MacBook Pro for a new Air. While the MBP had a slightly brighter screen, I am already used to the Air screen after one day and don't miss the brighter screen in lieu of the the longer battery life. My MBP had the worst battery life and the Touch Bar is completely useless. Not a power user so the MBP was a waste for me. Air seems to have plenty of power for whatever I do. I also LOVE the keyboard and don't understand the hatred for it.

I didn’t have one to sell but I had enough issues with trying to buy a quality 2018 tb mbp and the first air I bought was perfect. The air is a great computer for most users.

I don't believe that LaptopMag test of 234nits. Or they had a defective unit.

Notebookcheck has the panel giving an average of 315nits with uniformity at 95%

Great find :) that review is very in-depth, it sounds like the new Air is a great update, its not on par with the Pro but that's fine for people who don't need the Pro performance. General consumers and students will probably love this new Air :D

I wonder if it’s so much better than the MacBook to be honest.

I'm not sure, the 12" Macbook is more compact but i'm someone who likes the bigger 13" screen which is why i never brought the 12" Macbook even tho i liked it's design and screen.

I’m on a 13” Late 2013 MacBook Air and it works like a champ. I’m tempted to upgrade just for the size and the retina screen but at the same time considering to spend a couple more hundred and get the Pro instead for longevity. Just wondering if the thickness is going to bother me being on the air for such a long time.

As a writer i'm more bothered about the keyboard, i will spend some time in the Apple store with the new Air and the Pro, finally decide which one i'm going to get and then order :)

if you ever run on battery you will hate the MBP

I’m having hard time trying to decide between MBA 2018 and current MBP with and without touch bar version.

I heard MBA display will get extra brightness from latest operating system update so it should be closer to pro models but it is still without P3 colour space support that both pro models have.

Is there visible difference in colours like when surfing with Safari or watching photos between Air and Pro models? I mean can you run mac os in P3 colour mode all the time or is it default sRGB mode always? or do you need to use certain programs to take advantage of P3 colour space? I’m sorry if thatt is a stupid question but I have no personal experience with mac os yet myself.

The colors are still much better imo on the MacBook Pro. Plus MacBook Pro is more updated. And of course 4 core. I had a. Air for a very short time and returned it as it wouldn’t keep up for my needs ..... Best Buy has lots I’d sales on new MacBooks too

You can see this colour difference in everyday use between Air 2018 and Pro (like when surfing the internet with Safari or displaying photos)? I mean is Mac OS running in P3 model as default in Pro model? What colour mode it is using in Air?
I could live with slower CPU as this will be just for occasional use as my first Mac OS device but I'm pretty picky with displays. Also isn't pro without touch bar also just 2 core cpu? Touch bar version is double price compared to Air.

It depends. I have The MacBook Pro 15 2018 but i'm not satisfied with its design. And it just looks like any other aluminum laptop from 2012. MacBook Air has 10 times better design, battery life, much slimmer. And more expensive to look at the distance inside the coffee shop.

But in terms of Performance, Speaker and Display. Just add more and get the Pro instead. The price difference between the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro is not that big.

~~~ I don't know why Apple makes the MacBook (Air) version tends to be more Classy Looking than MacBook (Regular or Pro)
