AllThingsD weighs in on the MacBook Air rumors that have been circulating the past few weeks. They claim that the long awaited MacBook Air will arrive "late next week" according to "several sources".
Several sources indicate that the company plans to uncrate the eagerly anticipated updates to its MacBook Air line late next week. "The rumor sites are off by a week," one source said.
AllThingsD says to look for an announcement Thursday or Friday and that the new MacBook Airs will sport a Thunderbolt port, backlit keyboards, and 128GB and 256GB storage options.

As we pointed out before, Apple will have to release OS X Lion at the same time or before the new hardware releases. So, expect OS X Lion sometime next week as well.

I think all these new rumors are just like firing a shotgun from the hip. It's evident that the Lion and MBA release will happen very soon so anyone can say next week and it sounds reasonable. You don't have to be one of those "analysts" to make it believable.

I predict that if they don't come next week someone will predict that they'll come out the week after that.

They might as well start guessing again.

Next week is far more likely now anyway.

And if anything was happened in China or the UK we would know about it, it would be all over twitter.

I received a message from someone on Regent Street and no blacked out apple store, 1 hour after closing. So that is rubbish. It won't happen friday either.

Either next tue or next thur. And it makes sense, surely they need enough time to approve all the updated apps.

Who knows it could be apple planting all these mismatched rumours. It creates excellent hysteria and is good free marketing. That's why apple is like a religion to some people, it becomes emotional.

Glad to see the MBA is getting some decent specs. I'd like to move to a MBA + Mac Pro setup someday.

I hope this isn't what is delaying Lion. Actually, it's probably the other way around. I hear it's buggy.

Eventually someone will get it "right".

Absolutely.

On AllThingsD, there is no way they have 'several' sources. Even the most accomplished Apple move predictors appear to have only one source.

So if it's still buggy how on earth are they going to patch the massive amount of mba units currently sitting packaged up ready to be sold. Then there are the mini's, macbooks and the pro's.

I'd still like to know what happened to all the douchbags who insisted the current design of the macbook air didn't have a backlit keyboard because it 'couldn't fit'.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_3_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8J2 Safari/6533.18.5)

WHAT sources is also a good question. Who the crap are these "informers"? Probably a dude sitting behind a desk brainstorming ideas about what to type.

Boy-who-cried-wolf... Macrumors.. You are the boy/website-who-cried-wolf/macbook-air...

Lost faith in you. But not faith in new MacBook airs. Or Jesus. Very different implications though. ;)

I dunno, probably through that 'software update' thingy Mac OS uses.

By provding software updates through the built in apple software update mechanism?

This is just like meteorologists perdicting hurricanes. Sooner or later one makes landfall. So it will be with Lion and rumored Apple hardware and someone will scream.. I was right!

Exactly why they should just release the hardware NOW with a solid reliable operating system on it - SNOW LEOPARD, and let US decide whether whether we want to install their new crapstore-only OS.

Depends on what you are shooting at.

It...it...it's not like I was going buy one anyways!

I hate this BS, 3 times in a row now, I have heard "New MBA will be released next week, tomorrow, or another date." Not a single rumor about release date has been true for the new MBA so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It makes me really angry that Macrumors would post at the bottom of the article "so expect to see the MBA's late next week," based off of a ********** rumor!

And then people start stacking rumor upon rumor, until it seems like it is a fact.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Late next week, if it is late next week, means the 22nd, simultaneously released with Lion. I'm not saying I believe this, personally, but if the rumor says late next week, that's what it means and we can infer new minis at the same time as well.

Nobody's willing to commit to that exact date, because if they're wrong they want to cover their asses, but what they actually mean is the 22nd.

and this will secure steady site traffic for MR till late next week, when they can post a "or maybe not" if necessary.

Killer.
