You all think 1400 posts is long? Get real, it's nothing. There's a thread over at ateaseweb.com that's nearly 3600 pages long and counts over 70.000 posts. Now that is a huge thread!

I'm not saying which thread, though, or I'll have lost my own 'private'... er... musical inspiration source.

I think you may have missed my point.
What I was implying is that that number hardly represents the level of discussion when such a large number of posts can be summarised as white noise.

HDMI port...

I say "no thanks" to the HDMI port. My 30" LCD monitor would stop working because it's Dual-Link DVI which MBP supports. Any 30" Apple monitor would stop working which also require Dual Link DVI.

I Have Found Something

Well, we have spent how many pages debating as to what kind of port there is on the MacBook Pro case that we have seen. Now, I have a find for you all to speculate.

Here is the MacBook Pro case that has been reported on:

Now, here is the MacBook one:

As you can see, the round circle port/hole appears in a similar fashion as to the MacBook Pro, but there is no rectangular port on (the way we see it) its left. That is, as far as we can see it. Here is what I've found:

Either Apple's manufacturing process has left us with a jagged/rough portion of aluminum and a weird, plastic-like pull tab attached to the case, or we could have a port that is simply covered by some sort of rectangular cover sticker, presumably the same color as the body (gray). Please, let me know what you think. If this truly is a port, then we may have the famed 'dock connector' on our hands.

That's why the "one more thing" on Tuesday will be the new DisplayPort-only LED backlit 30" Apple monitors. So you can buy a new monitor along with your new "pro" laptop.

Jobs may be a jerk with an enormous ego, but he knows how to get the faithful to pull out their MasterCards! :D

I really hope they don't remove FireWire from MacBooks. It's gonna suck for all those laptop DJs who have FireWire audio interfaces... *cough me cough* Oh well, my current MacBook will last me for a few years at least!

Just one problem with that theory; there´s no sign of a port on the outside of the MacBook case, only a bracket on the inside.

OK, looking from left to right above:

1. POWER (magsafe) --
2. ETHERNET 10/100/1000 --
3. USB #1 --
4. USB #2 --
5. MiniDVI/VidOut
6. External Audio-In
7. Audio-Out/headphones
8. Appears to be Kensington Port

your #8 is actually the computer lock port if thats what you meant

Yeah, it was originally called the Kensington computer lock port, it's been on PowerBooks dating back to the early 1990s

Also the round thing we see here is nothing to worry about, it's basically a screw and part of the case. May be part of the sensor system too.

The aluminium is covered by a transparent sheet of plastic to protect it from smudges and other crap, the rounded thing is simply so that you can peel off the plastic from the casing without taking half an hour.

My guess is this. It is not a connection to an imac like docking station (too much to release on this event). Apple will want to keep the focus entirely on the new mb, mbp's, and possibly displays. How about it being a spot to hold the nifty new aluminum remotes?

There was all this talk that the mysterious port was a button to release the battery but that has been proved bogus.

As appleinsider clearly reveals the battery is released by a latch on the bottom of the device.

I guess we'll know what this port is in a couple of hours....
