as they say, a bird in the mouth is worth 2 in the hand or words to that effect! I just pulled the trigger on a SR Macbook and got a good deal from the UK online store, saved myself a cool £129 :D

Personally, I would wait for the next update. Althought I usually would agree with the "buy it when you need it" mentality, there seems to be much that needs changing in the Macbook to warrant waiting.

For one, Apple seems to be phasing out their "white for consumer" idea, and there is no other product in Apple's computer line that is white anymore, meaning they may make the new MB an aluminum one as well (perhaps with a black option?). Also, besides the 17" MBP, they are the only line with no LED backlight, something that seems long overdue since the last update (SR, but no LED). The lack of it in the 17" may be a cost issue, but the avaiability of one in the MBA suggests that LEDs shoudl be in the MB soon. Lastly with the introduction of the multi-touch trackpad, it seems to be something Appe will be bringing soonder than later to all their notebook computers.

Again I agree that technology is always changing and that you shoudl buy something as you need it, I believe that the next update should be a big enoug one to consider waiting a tad bit longer.

Personally, I think it would be kinda cool to have one of the last models from Apple as plastic or white. It would give it a retro feeling to it even when it lasts you 4 - 5 years.

Aluminum doesn't necessarily mean better. For one, aluminum gives you worse wireless reception then plastic. Two, aluminum dents, plastic shatters, but aluminum dents and gets bumped around MUCH easier then plastic shattering.

LED isn't that big of a deal. The screens are already beautiful. LEDs have been known to both have light bleeding and color issues more then what the MacBooks currently use.

Don't wait for the trackpad. It won't come for some time now.

The problem with waiting is regardless of now long you wait there is always new and better technology coming out. Unless you only need to wait a month or so, there is no point in waiting. It's not like the new MacBook is coming out next week and will have highly superior technology :)

i was originally planning on purchasing a blackbook after an update sometime in may or june, but i was just at the apple store and im kind of rethinking this for a few reasons. first, there seems to be something about the blackbook case material that feels kind of weird, cheap, and not tightly made. the white macbook even feels more tightly made.

I LOVED the MBA though. It felt really nice and all, but the screen was brilliant, and the keyboard someow felt more sturdy that that of the regular macbooks. the aluminum was also really nice.

if they could change the regular macbook case to aluminum and make the screen LED (and make keyboard backlit, even though that probably wont happen) i would buy one. otherwise i will think seriously about the air. what you give up in power you really make up in screen quality, design, portability, backlit keyboard, and aluminum case.
