I am having this problem with my Macbook as well, Apple said they will replace it, but it it will take 3-5 business days. This is pathetic, I can see that if I were to be the one doing the repair, it would only take me about 30 minutes and that's because I don't know exactly where the connectors are and have to be more careful than they do.

Really, it's a simple fix that should be able to be repaired while in the store.
What do you expect for us to tell you? If it's going to take that long, either a) they don't stock the part, or b) they have other repairs that will be done before yours. The time for the repair itself is irrelevant.

My MB had a month before AppleCare expired, and it had hairline fractures around the ventilation area. Took it into the Apple Store at Fairview (in Canada). They pretty much gave me the cold shoulder, and their explanations were bad. Then I tried the second time but went to the Apple Store at Eatons, and they ordered me a new bottom case, no questions asked. Asked them if they can replace the top case with new keyboard, they put it right on the order. Took a week for the parts to get in, because they don't keep inventory of these parts. The new casing looks great.
I guess it really depends on the guy you get. If he's a stubborn, uptight guy that makes no sense, then try your luck elsewhere.

It just happened to me :( and it has chipped off. I don't have applecare, I am still under the One year Warranty (Just!) I'm going to the apple store in my city asap with a wallet full of cash (just in case) and I'm going to try and get it repaired
