It's a "secret" problem with macs in a wireless g network. apparantly they don't want to admit it, but an apple rep at a best buy store told me they know there are issues with new macs in a wirelss g network and switching to wireless n will fix it. I switched to wireless n and have had no further problems

This worked for me!

Download "Onyx" then open up go to "cleaning" click down (boot, international preferences, directory service) and hit Execute then restart. :)

MacBook Air Connection Timeout

I had the same problems on my wife's MacBook Air. It would very seldom even connect to my 2.4Ghz network. It would connect fine to my 5GHz network but then the connection would drop very often or just slow down to unusual speed.

I then installed Lion on her computer and it would give me "Couldn't join <network name> a timeout error has occurred almost instantly when I tried to join my 2.4GHz network.

So I finally found a post about the MacOS storing the information from my old network. (it had the same name, different security and different password though) So, I went into System Preferences and then to my WiFi settings and a I deleted the old network from the network list. Then MANUALLY entered it and had to manually select 'WPA2 Personal' Now it has been working great! 100% uptime for going on a week now!

Im running a Netgear N600 WNDR3700v2 router with DD WRT Firmware security set to WPA2 Personal Mixed AES only.

I'm in support of changing the channel your wifi transmits on. Usually fixes the problem.

But I would suggest one more thing. If possible, try adjusting the power output of your wireless transmitter. Often they are set to 100% power output by default, but this doesn't always give you the best performance, especially in terms of interference from other wifi networks.

Wireless router is the issue.

Experienced the same problem on all my macs right after upgrading to Lion 10.7.2.

Unplug the router from power & ethernet. Plug back in after 3 seconds. Restart your computer.

Haven't had a problem since.

Change Channel with Router Settings

Hi there,

Just wanted to give a solution I just used today to fix the same problem with wireless connection giving the "connection timeout" error. I own a Macbook Pro, bought last year 2011, and using a Netgear Router WNDR3400. Steps of my solution:

1. Logged into router settings on alternate computer.
2. Navigated to "Wireless Settings".
3. Adjusted the channel from "44" to "48" within the Wireless Network (5GHz a/n) which utilizes WPA2-PSK [AES] security. (strangely I cannot get my Macbook to recognize the Wireless Network (2.4GHz b/g/n) that utilizes the WEP security).

These steps have solved my issue for today. I will try and re-post if I run into the issue again tomorrow.
