Hi, I have a 2006 black macbook (1,1) and a 2009 macbook (5,2) A1181. I'd like to swap the logic boards. I have the two MacBooks completely apart and noticed that some of the connectors are different (I'm aware that the board mounts are different). Each of the 3 different connectors have the same wires but different sockets. Would it be possible to remove the wires from the connectors and swap them? Do each of the wires serve the same purpose in each board? Any help would be appreciated.

Heres an example of one of the connectors I am talking about (this is the backlight inverter connector)

    And the 2009 Macbook IMG_1200.JPG

What are you trying to achieve ? The 5,2 logicboard into the black MacBook bottom case ?

The connectors are the least of your problems - just use the cables from the 5,2 for the inverter, fan and battery......

Biggest problem is the different logicboard screwmounts....

I actually successfully performed the swap!! I had to dremel out 5 mounts on each macbook and use the posts to hold in the heatsink. I then snipped and swapped the backlight inverter cables and soldered them on. I now have a black macbook 5,2 and a white macbook 1,1. Basically everything was swapped out of the shell but the screen.

You can look up the schematic. The image attached is for the J9000 inverter (from http://kythuatphancung.vn/uploads/download/4c3e9_Apple_Macbook_A1181_K36C_MLB_SCHEMATIC.pdf), yours might be different depending on what model you have. The label of the inverter should be right beside the socket on the board. If it isn't the same then you can google "A1181 schematic" and find one with the same backlight inverter.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

    Cheers!

    Thankyou for the Manual.

I've downloaded the other 13" macbook Manual which uses the j9400 here, but the schematics remains the same. Can you confirm my pinout findings of the Inverter Cable? I want to swap connectors to use it with the LED Inverter I got. don't have a multimeter at hand, nor am I willing/able to open my macbook at this moment... Those Screws are Locked Tight in my case. Maybe I'll find a googletastic way to measure voltage without one before you answer... :-D

    Cheers

I don't know for sure, but the photo looks right to me. If i can remember correctly, one of the pins on the board should have an arrow pointing to it. That should be the PWM (dim) pin.

You can follow an iFixit guide for disassembly.

Just to clarify, do you just have an inverter? or the backlight too?

    Cheers
