You appear to have too much time in your day to worry about the name Neo. 🥳
I actually wrote this at work while I was in the toilet pooping 🙂 I would have been sitting there for the same amount of time anyway, so in that sense I didn’t use any extra time.

Thanks for the info. You should see a doctor about that. Really. It shouldn't take that long. At the average rate of 35 wpm thats 15 minutes! But that does explain the odor associated with the post and truly highlights the depth of the criticism. So would you be inspired to name it CrapBook?

Yes and no.

Would be a nod to Jobs' wish for a real portable computer.

True, it's just I've been so conditioned to see everyone (myself included) making snarky/critical comments about the Neo (some deserved) that I took the original comment to mean "call it MacBook Lisa, it'll be about as commercially successful." But your context is a much more positive spin. 👍

Everytime. Like clockwork. EVERYTIME. iPod. iPhone. MacBook. iMac Pro. iPad. Apple Watch. Every time they use a new name for a product you can bet someone will post a breathless soliloquy about how bad the name is. And then six months later no one remembers.

Basically the essence of this forum.

I asked ChatGPT:

“MacBook Neo” has a certain sci-fi glow to it, but if you want names that roll off the tongue a bit smoother, here are some directions Apple-style naming often drifts toward. Imagine them printed in minimalist silver type on a white box 📦.

Clean, Apple-ish Names

Short, simple, slightly futuristic.

• MacBook Air+
• MacBook Nova
• MacBook Edge
• MacBook Flux
• MacBook Pulse
• MacBook Core
• MacBook One

Space / Energy Vibe

Apple sometimes leans into cosmic or elemental feelings.

• MacBook Nova
• MacBook Halo
• MacBook Aurora
• MacBook Orbit
• MacBook Ion

“Next Generation” Feel (without saying Neo)

These feel like evolution instead of replacement.

• MacBook Next
• MacBook Advance
• MacBook Shift
• MacBook Forward
• MacBook Elevate

Slightly Playful but Still Sleek

Names that feel modern but not too corporate.

• MacBook Spark
• MacBook Glide
• MacBook Flow
• MacBook Swift
• MacBook Drift

A couple that really feel like something Apple might actually ship:

• MacBook Nova
• MacBook Air+
• MacBook Edge
• MacBook Swift
TBH Neo sounds the best out of all of those, and the most "Apple".

It's also cool that each product is 3 letters– Air, Pro, Neo. Did you consider that?

Crap has a very negative sound to it. I would suggest PoopyBook. It’s much more playful and goes well with the colors.

What really makes it worse is that the name will age terribly. Neo literally means new. The second the next model comes out, what is this one supposed to be, Old Neo. MacBook Neo 2. MacBook Super Neo.
I thought this too. But, alas, both us are wrong. It can also mean "revived." Revived means "to restore to life." So what we got here is a revived Macbook, which is exactly what it it. Apologies are in order. Neo is a good name.

Oh… I didn’t know.

But in all seriousness the laptop itself is super cool and will sell like hot cakes.

Next year's can be Neo².

Or maybe Neo²⁷ to align with OS naming.

I like the name, it sounds like a cute little budget car. The word “Neo” doesn’t really carry much weight. It’s not bold like “Pro” or light like “Air.” It has a lot of movement to it, almost bouncy in a way.

Boy the Macrumor's usuals are having a REALLY hard time finding negative things to say about this product.
I think it’s a great product. It’s a ChromeBook and cheap-Windows-laptop killer. It’s super minimalistic and cool looking machine. There is something about it that is so clean and elegant. I just don’t like the name, that’s all.

I knew a man and woman who named their son "Royal Payne." Now THAT'S a BAD NAME!

I struggle to imagine getting this upset about what a multi-trillion dollar company calls a new computer marketed for people who aren't in OP's market segment. Just don't buy it? Pity the school kids who will get one? Like... who cares? You want another eMac? iBook? The company has had several iterations of naming conventions over the years. Change is the only constant.

I totally agree. Every single 12-19 year old will have one next week. Then they'll be in for life. And I don't care about the name. At least it's not LC-4100 or something.
