The iPhone 17e was such an odd set of compromises and too high of a price point. The SE line did a better job at this.
Don’t you mean the 16e (without MagSafe), or maybe the Air (mono speakers)? The 17e is certainly more modern in its feature set than the SE 2 and 3 were at their time.

The Neo also has its share of compromises: The screen isn’t that great and uses interpolation, external monitor support is limited in terms of resolution, no backlit keyboard, Touch ID only on the more expensive model, one unlabeled USB-C port with only USB 2.0 capabilities.

That thread didn’t age well, did it? We love our neo for what we need it for. The biggest issue we have is windows muscle memory.

I mean, yeah. Of course it did. You can get it for pretty cheap. And if you qualify for the education discount, it's even cheaper. If someone casual is buying a new computer, a Neo is a great idea. Obviously if you need more power, it's not, but this isn't aimed at power users, it's aimed at students and older folks.

Nah bro, I wish you luck, if it works then good for you... but it might not
I'm an AI engineer, developer, and designer. I occasionally do work in Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro. I use a 16" M5 Max with 128GB RAM - and half the time even that isn't enough. Trust me when I say, not unlike many others here, I know what "real" work is.

That being said, I also "know" that virtually no one purchasing the MacBook Neo cares nor is affected by the problems that you seem to have with their computers.

How was the sub $700 market even 2%? That had to be all refurbs. They’ve never sold a computer in that price range. Unless that was 100% base model Mac Minis from a few years ago?
Read the article. That under $700 market is worldwide. It said Apple sells M1, M2, and other older Macs in places like India at sale prices. They sell enough that it accounts for 2%.

When you look at Apple's market, only 3.25% of the people live in the US. The other 96.75% don't live there. Or looking another way, the three largest countries, by population, are (in order) India, China, and then the US. Unless you count the EU as a country, then the US would be #4.

I think Apple looks at that 97.75% number as where its future growth will come from, especially in India. Selling cheaper computers there is a good way to bring people into the Apple ecosystem.

For sure you won't run those apps there, but what about normal apps like Claude AI or discord that use electron and eat your ram, add an animated background to that and you will see how fast it will drain.

Apple isn't the problem, they have a good strategy, you buy the new and then want to upgrade to the air ! We will see in 3 years anyways...
