I bought a MacBook neo for my mum this Mother’s Day, I don’t want to open the box, but the white Apple box has some scratches on it, and can be felt with my finger, it’s also a little dirty.

how well do the Apple boxes protect the MacBook inside?

Will the MacBook underneath still be undamaged under the box? Even though the box is a little scratched?

Well enough ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If it's just scratches & dirt, I'm sure it won't be an issue.

Mother's Day isn't until May though, so maybe return it & buy closer to then if you're concerned.

Hi thanks for your reply, I’ve tried circling where the dirty marks are, the circle above the Apple logo is where there’s a scratch I can feel with my finger

Only a puncture should worry you. Very well protected. But maybe you should open it and check it if it really bugs you. Or return it, which is silly as it's like a 98% chance there's nothing wrong.
It feels like a slight puncture but it doesn’t go all the way through, more like a scratch

I might as it’s a worry, does it look bad in the pics?
I'd be very surprised if there's any damage to the device - but return it & buy in a month & 1/2 so your mum can change her mind on color or anything within 14 days.

Open it first to let everyone here know the result.

OP if you recall your last purchase or if you have a previous Mac box, you'll notice these boxes are fairly thick and durable. I unboxed a 14" M5 recently and the box itself was probably 1/3 of the overall shipping weight. It's a robust box. I would only be concerned with a significant/deep puncture. Scratches/dust/dirt are part of the shipping process. But as others have said, if it's going to cause you any stress, return and then buy one with in-store pickup so it doesn't spend time riding around in a UPS/FedEx/DHL truck.

Open the box, boot it up, set up the basics, put it back in the box and give it to your mum.

Or just be there when she opens it and help her set it up (and of course swap it out if there's something wrong with it).

Yo bro, it's a box, not a tampon.

Brownlee has a new video where he suggests a Neo for grandma, I replied maybe Grandma wants a bigger screen 🙂
