Thank you for calling my computer manure.

I was debating whether to pick up a MB or MBP in May. I went with the MB because I swore to myself after having a 15" pc notebook that I would never get a 15" screen again, and an inch or so in dimensions makes a big difference in portability. Also, I prefer the design, with the magnetized hinge, easily-upgraded HDD and RAM, and new keyboard (I think the MPB's kepboard is too squishy and feels cheap).

Honestly I don't know why you people complain so much about the GMA. Yeah, it means bad gaming, but it also improves battery life, and only one or two of the few dozen intel-compatible mac games interest me.

Edit: nice title change.

I do miss my Aluminum 12'' PowerBook. The thing was great. It always felt solid.

One question to the people who still do have their PowerBooks. Are the powerbook's keyboard aluminum as well? Im not talking about the keys, but the hand rest area. As I can see from the MacBook Pro lines, they sure are not. Im hoping I was just remembering wrong, so when the 12'' MacBook Pros (crosses fingers) comes out, I would feel the same as my PowerBook...

God I hope they make a 12'' MacBook Pro.....

No question the 12" Powerbook was Apple's best laptop- EVER. James Kim wanted a 12" Macbook Pro as well.

No kiddin'...I couldn't believe it when I saw his post count. Anyways, for all of those people who were truly offended because they have their own piece of white/black plastic sitting in front of them that they paid a hefty penny for, I changed the title of the thread to something...less "trollish?" (can't believe people actually thought I was trolling). Hope that works out for everyone and their *feelings.* In addition, I guess the whole keyboard is up to personal preference, but after spending considerable time with both, I really think the MBP>MB in every way.

P.S. @ Appleintelrock...lovin' the 80 gig black beaut of an iPod, thanks again!

I've spent a lot of time using both keyboards and it is indeed a personal preference, I far prefer the Macbook to the Macbook Pro. Again, 100% personal. And you brining up the iPod (which I'm glad you're enjoying) is another switch that seems like a "downgrade." 80GB ---> 8 GB. Personally, I enjoy the aluminum and VERY small size. All a matter of personal preference, the entire world is as a matter of fact.

ntegrated graphics are the weakest point of the mb, and this would definitely lead to an increase in sales.

I don't know about that. A lot of people who want an Apple laptop with discreet graphics decided to pay lots of extra cash for the MBP...Including an option for discreet graphics may sell more MacBooks, but it would cannibalize sales of the MBP to some extent as well.

The 12" Powerbook is the greatest computer apple has ever produced. I unfortunately sold mine last september, and i really regret it. My dad is in the process of selling his but i may try and persude him to keep it. I have a macbook now but if a 12" MBP ever comes out I wil probably sell my MB for it, because the 12" is so much better.

ahem... I think your forgetting that the G4 cube holds that title, followed closely by the g4 iMac, then maybe your 12" powerbook :p

j/k I just hold the cube & lampy in high regards just in term of design.

I agree with the OP. Having a Powerbook does set the bar quite high purely because of its features. My Macbook is pretty damn quick, no question about it, but the Pro features which Ive grown used to over the last 3 years Im missing.

When I first turn the MB on, I was a bit 'eek' at the size of the screen. (I knew it was smaller, but, it hadnt sunk in that 2 inchs can mean alot.) After about a week, it seemed natural. Only when I used the PB the other day did I realise that I do prefer te 15". Shame, but I couldnt afford the MBP nor justify buying one. Maybe next year or the year after...

After all, the Macbook is designed to be an everyday workhorse for the average consumer. And it does it well without missing a beat.

I get just as many MacBook buyers as I do MacBook Pro buyers, each have their own reasons why they like one or the other. I suppose its just a matter of personal preference. I personally like the MacBook Pro 17".

my uncle still uses a G4 cube as his main machine... I'm always in awe everytime I see it

I used to use a 14" iBook, although after using the MacBook Pros at CompUSA, I couldn't put up with using my iBook anymore so I saved up for a MacBook Pro. I dislike the plastic feel of the MacBook/iBook, and the higher resolution bigger screen is much appreciated along with an actually good graphics card. I could never go back down to a MacBook or iBook again. And the worst part of the MacBook is the glossy screen, I hate those types of screens, they show finger prints so easily and everything is so over-saturated. My MBP is more than portable for me, I don't know why some of you think it's too heavy, as it's less than half a pound heavier than the MBP 15".

OP is a 'bag

Granted, we'd all buy the best product if we all had a lot of money and if money werent an issue, but that's not the case.

The Macbook, while not as good as the Macbook Pro (which is priced WAY higher than the Macbook), is still a very snappy, fast, capable, portable, nice Apple laptop.

Compare the mb to the iBook line, which it did replace: to say the mb is much improved is still an understatement. MacBook: huge speed increase, better graphics, better screen (arguable), better keyboard (also arguable), similar case -- but also in black, built-in iSight, extended desktop, cheaper, and the list goes on.

You put "cheaper" in bold? I agree the MB is a vast improvement over the iBook, and the best value Mac by far - but the entry-level iBooks were $999. Maybe you're comparing the MacBooks only to the 14" iBooks?

The $999 is the one thing I miss from the iBooks. I'm hoping that at some point next year they'll drop the prices by $100 across the entire MacBook line.

i've owned both, and at the same time and i like both, the mbp just feels beefier ithats all.

I think the macbook is better then the pro.....but the 12" Powerbook still rules........over both...

When the 12" MBP is released (if it does get released) I will go to the store and take one good look at its screen, and then buy it.

Thanks to the good experience with the 15" I probably won't buy anything at launch from the online store ever again.
