I'm also thinking about getting a netbook to accompany my MBP, because I have a feeling it might be too big to carry to school and in a plane (I travel quite a lot). I'm mainly looking at the Dell or MSI, cause they both should be easy to hackintosh :p

The msi wind that I ordered has not yet arrived and I have not tried the dell but as far as I can tell they are both great netbooks.

It depends on A) your budget, and B) your portability needs.

If you can afford the MB and don't absolutely require the portability of the Wind, then I would really recommend the MB. Even if you only want to do relatively light work, it is still better done on a MB. The Wind actually runs Office, web, stuff like that pretty well, but the screen size and small keyboard are limiting (obviously a tradeoff for portability.) The Wind even runs OS X very well if you decide to go the hackintosh route.

OTOH, if you want to save a few bucks and need something really light for occasional use, the Wind is a nice little netbook. Keep in mind the 3-cell battery is really weak, I would recommend buying one with a 6-cell battery.

Well said.

If you don't have the money for a entry level Macbook, just wait it out some and be patient, since it's way better than any netbook out there.

Man, I had this same dilemma last night. I was supposed to be getting a new eee PC for free and sold my old Toshiba laptop in anticipation. I found out on Friday that the eee PC promotion had ended and I had no laptop for travel! So I ended up at Best Buy looking at Netbooks vs. Macbooks. Although I am only using it for travel purposes, I ended up going for a 13.3 MacBook, the one with the aluminum unibody and the upgraded 250 GB HDD/backlit keyboard. While my wallet took a huge hit, I made the right choice. I've been trying to convert my wife to Mac for a while now, and now that I have a second one that will be so much easier.

My netbook is a lenovo s10 running 10.5.6. It's a great product when you factor in price, costs, portability, ease/cost of upgrades and build factor. Dual boot with xp.

BTW, I didn't like the wind due to it's unusable keyboard and mattel quality build/form factor. The s10 is definitely the little brother to the ibm thinkpad.

I agree. My Dad has one to accompany his MacBook. I used it for a bit, and the keyboard was actually good enough for me to type around 60WPM. If the OP thought for a bit, he could of gotten both power and portability. MacBook Air! It's small, and light. Maybe 1 pound difference compared to a netbook. It's $999, so the same as a white MacBook.

before even considering a netbook i urge you to try out the keyboard because that is the one thing that drove me away from them i can't stand not having a full size keyboard

The wind has come man its a small computer!! Leopard has also come goingto hackintosh it tomorrow hopefully. Fingers crossed!!

Last year I bought the Asus eeepc 1000h for my trip to Europe for emails, picture storage and posts, Skype, and generally Web surfing - I sold it about a month after I got home. For me, I had absolutely no use for it after my trip or no desire to use it. You get exactly what you pay for. It was slow and the overall performance in general was just okay, screen quality isn't the greatest but I really didn't expect it to be. If you're used to working on a Mac you'll hate it. The big plus was the portability and battery life. Skype worked well but any photo work was very slowwwww. I plan to get a refurbished white MacBook for my trip this year.
