Apple rightfully should be punished for this. I hope the class action covers all repairs and not just partial. May even be worth skipping small class action and filing a small claims.

Apple is not going to give everyone who bought a MacBook in a 4 year span $400.

You’ll get a $10 apple gift card, if you’re lucky.
I completely disagree. This is a serious design defect, and could end up costing Apple SERIOUS amounts of money in terms of a settlement. The fact that the 2019 and newer production MacBook models all changed back to the scissors-switch keyboard is ample proof Apple knew about the butterfly switch keyboard being prone to failing from dirt clogging.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple ends up offering a $400 settlement per defective MacBook with the butterfly keyboard in the form of a voucher towards buying a new M1/M1X based MacBook model with the scissors-switch keyboard.
LMAO I would be surprised if you're right. I know it sounds good to in your head because that's the outcome you'd want but that absolutely will not happen. At BEST a $50 Apple Store gift card would be granted, but don't even count on that amount. They may have to continue replacing the keyboard for a longer period, but that's about it.
It may sound far-fetched
It sure as hell does...and IS.
(I'm sure most here agree)
Most here will agree that they want that type of settlement but sorry this isn't proper thinking if people agree with you Apple providing that type of settlement. 😂
, but it's a great way to get users to upgrade to the latest Mac technology.
I don't think Apple wants to help people move to the next technology if it's going to cost them $400 to do so. Step out of your non-reality bubble. 😁

So does this mean if you don't live in "California, New York, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, Washington, and Michigan." then you're SOL for getting in on this lawsuit?! That's awful it is restricted to only those states.
No. It means you can still sue for more, unlike the people in these states that will probably get a $5 coupon to buy an Apple product. But the lawyers will make out like bandits and get real money.

WOW, punishing a company for making an honest attempt at trying something new that they thought would be an improvement but it didn't work out. I hope you don't truly think Apple purposely created the butterfly keyboard just to screw over customers? Lordy your mindset....SMH.

I’ve had my keyboard replaced 3 times. This is something that I still have issues with (since I havent upgraded yet) but it’s out of warranty.

Bought a 2016 15" MBP shortly after it came out. The keyboard was replaced about a year later. It's been acting up again so I'll probably need to submit another repair request. (H button randomly doesn't work and the period button types 2 periods about half the time). Fortunately I normally use an external keyboard, but it's annoying.

Nope. It took Apple a while to fix the keyboard. Right now they're still dealing with the class action lawsuit.
Your earlier post said Force Apple to make better keyboards. They have done that with the scissor switches on newer MacBooks. If you meant for them to fix the butterfly keyboards for past customers they can't remake them.

It's a good thing Apple has deep, deep pockets. There are no winners in this except the law firm that is handling the case. The claimants will get a '$25 Itunes Gift Certificate'. (probably)

Maconplasma, you may scoff at my suggestion, but given that many MacBook users had their butterfly-switch keyboards on 2015-2019 MacBook models replaced and it still didn't resolve the switch failure issues more than once, this is something that Apple may have to set aside a 10-figure amount for a financial settlement. Wish I was as sanguine as you, though.

They tried to create a new design and clearly didn't test it properly in real use cases before going into production. Same scenario with the GPU issues on older machines. If a product has design flaws and can't be repaired properly so the same problems don't come back then the product should be completely replaced with a revised model that doesn't have design flaws.

Most people will never see the money as they will never know to file for this.

Apple does this knowing they won't have to pay as much money. Deny issues, minimize profit loss and keep selling defective products, Deny issues, let it go to Class Action Lawsuit, 80% wont file, minimum money loss.

The punishment should not be for having tried a new design, but for lack of transparency once the new design's flaws were discovered, especially towards those customers which might have received the flawed keyboard model after Apple was already aware of its issues.

The obvious problem with class action lawsuits is that even if you win, the reward is split so much, its pretty much worthless.

Every Butterfly customer should be granted a working magic keyboard replacement including top case and hinge replacement. Too Expensive? I paid about €4500 for my 2018 MBP ...
