Yeah, they really dropped the ball on this one, but it doesn’t look like they’ll make this right, because there probably isn’t a way to make it right like by redesigning because it probably would not fit. And to keep replacing for free is too costly for them to admit their mistake. So us poor consumers just have to deal with it. Like a keyboard cover, being extra careful, if you haven’t already been hit with this plague.

Well put. I also do not believe this is fixable. The margins are simply too tight to accommodate a proper keyboard fix.

At this point I only hope that enough of these keyboards fail that somebody intiates a class action lawsuit against Apple.

I think enough of these keyboards are failing for a class action lawsuit, but Apple will make the case that this is a user fault in the first place for getting the keyboard dirty, like spilling coffee on it or something. That's the view Apple geniuses were having, and that replacement will cost $700, and that I better be more careful next time or put a cover on it next time.

If you people are really telling the truth about the KB's then why no class action lawsuit yet?
$3K $4K laptops and your KB's are down I would be PO'ed and yet you still buy Apple LOL.

From "nothing to lose" perspective I agree it makes sense. Still I would push harder on Apple to do the replacement for free or at a major discount.

After going through 4 topcase replacements in 14 months (I also have the 2016 model), when it fails again I'll just take it back. Because by now I realise that it is not a matter of "if", but "when" this keyboard also fails. I did a couple of longer FCPX renders previous week and now I can feel the keys don't have the same feel anymore (2017 topcase). It's just extremely bad design.

I'm not PO'ed. And it could be argued that KB problem was caused by me. I could have been more careful, or put a cover on it. I just did not realize how much they sacrificed robustness of their keyboard or thinness.
